Job Description
PHP Backend Developer
Transfermarkt GmbH & Co. KG
• As a PHP developer you are part of our backend team and collaborate with colleagues from other software areas to further develop our platform. • You design new features on our existing Yii-based site, contribute to our new Symfony developments and actively help migrate the monolith to a service-oriented architecture. • You further develop existing Transfermarkt features and initiate new ones – both in the monolith and in the new Symfony stack. • You build robust REST APIs that connect our web and app projects. • You coordinate closely with stakeholders, for example on API design or integrating external services. • You work in a growing system that handles many millions of requests per day – performance, scalability and clean architecture are a key focus. • You build it, you run it: your interest goes beyond software development and you are also curious about how the application behaves in production, how it is monitored and how it can be improved. • You develop within an agile Scrum process in two-week sprints and actively participate in reviews, retrospectives and technical improvements.
Job Requirements
- Several years of experience developing with PHP – ideally with Symfony, Yii or comparable frameworks
- Familiarity with REST APIs and classic MVC architecture, and openness to transitioning to a modern service-based environment
- Understanding of performance, scalability and maintainability of large web applications
- Interest in close technical coordination with microservice and frontend colleagues
- You enjoy working in a team, actively participate in code reviews and take responsibility for your topics
- Very good German language skills (at least C1) are required.
Benefits
- Experience football up close: Our international team shares a passionate love of football. You can experience this firsthand at the stadium thanks to VIP and season tickets.
- Room for your ideas: Whether brownbags, code reviews or tech talks – we live continuous development. You can experiment, contribute and help shape the Transfermarkt of tomorrow.
- Flexibility that suits you: Work where you want – in the office, remotely or on workation. Plus: flexible working hours for a real work–life balance.
- Active breaks you’ll enjoy: Whether yoga, fitness, swimming or bouldering – with our Urban Sports Club membership you can train across Germany and clear your head.
- Team spirit: Regular team events, football quizzes, table football rounds or a Christmas party – we value togetherness.
- Development opportunities: We support your continuing education through seminars, training and conference attendance for networking. Our weekly internal English classes not only improve language skills but also strengthen networking within Transfermarkt.
- Mobile and economical: With our subsidy for the Deutschlandticket you can travel flexibly and affordably – whether to the stadium or the office. Thinking ahead: we also help you prepare for the future with contributions to pension plans and capital-forming benefits.
- Comfortable office atmosphere: Snacks, fruit, drinks and the occasional round of FIFA or table football to clear your mind.
