Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 1–3 years of professional experience in communications, PR, marketing, or a related field
- Genuine interest in analyst relations, competitive intelligence, or market intelligence
- Familiarity with current AI tools and a curiosity to push us forward in using new AI tools that deliver high quality results to our customers
- Exceptional attention to detail and a passion for data integrity
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple clients and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communications
- Collaborative, optimistic energy with a hunger to learn and contribute
- Proficiency in collaboration and communication tools include spreadsheets and slide creation

Role Description First Merchants Bank is seeking a Review Appraiser to join our team! This position will be fully remote based out of Indiana, Ohio, or Michigan. This position is responsible for evaluating the credibility, accuracy, and regulatory compliance of real estate appraisal reports used to support the bank's lending decisions. This role involves conducting detailed reviews to ensure valuations are well-supported, align with Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and Interagency Appraisal & Evaluation Guidelines, and meet internal bank policies. Review Appraisers collaborate closely with third-party vendors, loan officers, credit teams, and bank partners to resolve deficiencies, provide guidance, and promote high-quality valuation practices across the organization. - Scope commercial appraisal reports using data provided by the lending team to appropriately address the appraisal problem. - Work with lending partners to gain an understanding of the collateral and the appropriate requirements for the appraisals if the information provided is incomplete or unclear. - Review narrative, commercial appraisal reports to ensure acceptable appraisal methodologies and techniques are utilized. - Verify that the appraisal reports under review conform with USPAP, First Merchants minimum standards, and all applicable regulations. - Work with third-party appraisal vendors and bank partners to resolve deficiencies in appraisal reports. - Prepare appraisal review reports and narrative that are in compliance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) (Standard #4). - Monitor market sources, investment data, and financial markets to remain current on real estate market trends. - Work closely with loan production staff to address questions they or the customer may have about appraisal reports. - Educate colleagues on compliance-related issues related to regulations, USPAP, and First Merchants appraisal policy and procedures. - Coach colleagues in the use of the appraisal ordering and management platform. - Escalate issues to the Managing Director, Commercial Appraisal Review when appropriate. Qualifications - Bachelor degree in business, economics or related field of study. - A minimum of five (5) years of experience in commercial real estate valuation. - Possess a Certified General Appraiser credential.
