Overview Selective Insurance is seeking a Claims Technical Specialist-Construction Defect for this remote position. This role will investigate, negotiate and conclude by settlement or denial complex and challenging claims. The individual in this position will also ensure claims are processed within company policies, procedures, and individual's prescribed authority with exceptional standards of performance. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities - Investigate the claims through telephone, written correspondence, and/or personal contact with claimants, attorneys, insureds, witnesses and others having pertinent information. - Analyze information in order to evaluate assigned claims to determine the extent of loss, taking into consideration contributory or comparative negligence. Assign medical or other experts to case and arrange for medical examinations when necessary. - Process incoming calls and correspondence from insureds, claimants and agents regarding questions or problems associated with claims. Interact with underwriters and agents on claim resolution. - Evaluate, negotiate and settle both non-litigated and litigated claims within delegated authority. Handle litigation files from start to finish. - Update ACS on a continual basis to accurately reflect status of each assigned fie and to initiate percentage of negligence on the part of the insured to determine "chargeablity". - Receive and approve expenses incurred to investigate, process, and handle a claim. - Prepare check requisitions for all loss and expense payments. - Explore salvage and subrogation potential on all claims. Prepare for and participate in claims review and settlement conferences. - Close claim by issuing check or denial and securing appropriate releases. - Must be able to drive an automobile to travel within territory. Car travel represents approximately 0-10% of employee’s time and a valid driver’s license. As a ProAg Crop Adjuster, you will make first contact with our policy holder on the farm or ranch that has just experienced a loss. You will work with our customer to complete field inspections, read maps and aerial photos, measure fields and storage bins, collecting production records of farm commodities, all the while assessing damage or loss. You’ll stick with each claim for each grower until the work is done and the claim is settled. Reporting to the Area Claims Supervisor, you will work regularly in the field on the farms, climbing grain bins, walking over rough terrain for long distances, etc. You will apply your good judgment, common sense and understanding of ProAg's adjusting guidelines and policy provisions for a variety of Multi-Peril Crop Insurance, Crop Hail, and Named Peril policies. In this position, you will work from home and cover a territory that includes Ohio. This position will require travel of up to 75%, occasionally even beyond your assigned territory. In This Exciting Opportunity, You Will: - Perform fact-finding to determine cause(s) and percentage of loss, exercising your best independent judgment in the handling of claims. Escalate any issues or problems that you can’t resolve to the Area Claims Supervisor. - Convey regulations and interpretation of procedure to claimants, agents, and industry people on claim situations. - Effectively communicate our position on developing industry topics such as new specialty crops or expanding coverage programs. - Continuously expand your knowledge of RMA rules and regulations and ProAg procedures for applying all MPCI, Crop Hail, and Federal Crop Insurance regulations.
