Senior Repowering Engineer / Technical Lead - Repowering Service
NovaSource PowerNovaSource Power Services is the premier global service partner for renewables asset owners ready to fuel smart growth. With over 20 years of operating experience, NovaSource has the global reach and strategic capabilities to achieve our client’s renewables goals around the world. Our turn-key services optimize each step of our client’s project lifecycles — from commissioning to decommissioning. Our approach creates success for our clients and stability for our teams. We empower a renewable world.
Role Description NovaSource is launching a Repowering Services function to help asset owners extend the life, value, and performance of utility-scale solar and storage assets. This role is the technical backbone of that effort. The Senior Repowering Engineer will own repowering engineering definition, technical scoping, and cost estimation, while execution will be delivered primarily through vetted construction partners. This role is not responsible for building or managing large construction crews. Instead, success is measured by clarity of scope, credibility of estimates, and disciplined execution planning. This is a senior, high-judgment role intended to establish NovaSource as a trusted repowering advisor—not a construction company. Key Responsibilities - Repowering Engineering & Technical Definition - Lead technical evaluation of repowering opportunities across PV, BESS, inverters, controls, and BOP. - Develop engineering concepts and replacement strategies based on asset condition, performance data, and owner objectives. - Translate field realities into clear, buildable scopes suitable for third-party execution. - Identify risks, constraints, and interconnection impacts early and explicitly. - Cost Estimation & Commercial Support - Develop defensible, bottoms-up repowering cost estimates. - Define execution phasing, outage strategies, and schedule assumptions. - Support bid packages, contractor scoping, and bid leveling. - Partner with Commercial and BD teams to support client discussions and proposals. - Execution Oversight (Limited, Targeted) - Provide technical oversight during execution phases as needed. - Act as Owner-rep or technical authority—not construction superintendent. - Support NovaSource field teams when flex labor or light field support is appropriate. - Program & Capability Development - Establish NovaSource’s repowering playbook, templates, and standard deliverables. - Help define service tiers, exclusions, and guardrails. - Support long-term integration of repowering into NovaSource’s Total Asset Optimization (TAO) strategy. Qualifications - Required Experience - 10+ years of experience in utility-scale solar and/or energy storage. - Direct experience with repowering, brownfield upgrades, or large-scale retrofits. - Strong background in engineering definition, estimating, and scope development. - Experience working alongside EPCs, OEMs, and specialty contractors. - Demonstrated ability to evaluate risk, cost, and constructability. - Preferred Experience - Experience supporting inverter or module replacement programs. - Familiarity with interconnection constraints and outage coordination. - Exposure to portfolio-level asset strategies (not just single projects). - Prior Owner-rep, advisory, or technical authority roles. Core Competencies - Engineering judgment and technical credibility. - Cost and scope discipline. - Clear written and verbal communication. - Ability to challenge assumptions and push back constructively. - Comfort operating with limited structure in an early-stage function. Office Physical Requirements All positions in our office require interaction with people and technology while either standing or sitting. In order to best service our customers, internal and external, all associates must be able to communicate face-to-face and on the phone with or without reasonable accommodation. US: Diversity Statement – Equal Employment Opportunity It is NovaSource’s policy to provide equal employment opportunity to all applicants and employees.
