Role Description Responsible for transmission line engineering including detailed design for high voltage transmission projects through 500kV. Depending upon complexity of the project, the Transmission Engineer may: - Prepare, provide guidance, or assist in preparing and developing the engineering deliverables for electric transmission projects. - Include line routing, structure selection & design, plan & profile drawings, hardware & conductor selection, equipment & construction specifications, and all associated calculations. - Work closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements. - Develop technical specifications and provide direction and guidance to drafters and designers. - Direct the flow of drafting and designer duties, ensuring design schedules are met. - Provide regular project status updates to the project engineer. - Handle multiple projects and provide a detailed design package that complies with applicable engineering design standards and all safety codes. Additional responsibilities include: - Leading a collaborative team to understand scope, prepare deliverables, and provide project updates. - Performing cost-effective designs based on industry, company, and/or client standards. - Generating design criteria, reports, design verifications, and clearance tables for Power Line Systems (PLS-CADD). - Building and modifying pole and tower models for PLS-CADD design. - Developing construction assembly drawings, material selection, and structure loading packages for submittal to vendors. - Developing construction specification packages that include drawings, one lines, phasing, and standard installation specifications. - Traveling out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments. - Attending and leading external and internal meetings to support processes. - Understanding and following oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies. - Working during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering, Civil engineering, or related field. - At least 4+ years’ experience designing and engineering transmission lines between 69kV and 500kV. - Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole and PLS-Tower. - Knowledge of MFAD, LPILE, and NESC requirements as well as NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and RUS design standards. - Ability to interact professionally with all levels of management while managing a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively. - Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, and listen; occasionally lift and move objects up to 30 pounds. - Effective communication and interaction skills with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment. Responsibilities IBTS has immediate openings in our Northern Virginia, Ashburn office for Electrical Plan Reviewers for projects nationwide. This is a REMOTE position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Examining residential and commercial building plans to ensure compliance with adopted electrical codes. - Attending meetings (mostly virtual meetings) with municipal officials, residents, engineers, architects, and design professionals. - Ensuring all plan reviews are completed as committed to the customer and documentation is accurately maintained. - Ensuring plan reviews are performed in accordance with the standards, ordinances, codes, and regulations adopted/established by the municipality. - Consistent demonstration of effective time management, organization, attention to detail, and people skills. - Performing a variety of duties requiring the use of independent judgment and technical knowledge. - Interfacing with representatives from each client jurisdiction. Additional responsibilities are outlined below: Plans Examining - Perform the full range of electrical reviews under IRC or IBC codes. Identify and address areas of plan non-compliance. Enter plan review results in the appropriate software. - Ensure customer commitments and company goals for plan review turnaround times are consistently met or exceeded. Customer/Community Relationships - Be available, responsive, knowledgeable, and cordial to customer and client requests for information. Answer electrical code-related questions from builders, developers, jurisdictions, and the general public. - Maintain positive relationships with Town/City Hall Personnel and IBTS staff. - Work and coordinate with plan review manager and plan examiners of other disciplines to ensure the quality and integrity of the overall plan review deliverables. Continuous Improvement - Identify areas for improvement in office operations, customer service level, and employee efficiency, and implement changes with the approval of Plan Review Service Manager. - Suggest/recommend procedures and processes to improve plan review operations. - Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE - Five (5) years of experience in electrical engineering or plan review services within a municipal setting - Licensed professional engineer (PE) preferred - Bachelor’s degree or more advanced degree in architecture, engineering, or construction from colleges - Need to pass ICC Electrical Plan Examiner test (E3 test) in 6 months after the hiring - Valid driver’s license and good driving record KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS - Must possess working knowledge of local building code regulations, policies, procedures, and terminology used within the work environment. - Must be able to positively interact with the other team members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and different clientele. - Basic computer skills. - Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite of products (i.e., MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook). - Working knowledge of spelling, punctuation, and grammar. - Basic knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and any particular terminology required by the position. - Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment. - Communicate effectively verbally and in writing to a diverse group of customers. - Good attention to detail. - Self-directed and self-motivated.
