Position Objective The Underwriter I – Commercial Lines plays a vital role in supporting the underwriting and servicing needs of our commercial insurance clients. This position is responsible for providing concierge-level service to insureds and agents by managing small to mid-sized commercial lines accounts. Core responsibilities include processing policy transactions with underwriting authority, managing endorsement requests, handling certificates of insurance, responding to service inquiries, and proactively identifying cross-sell opportunities. The role requires a high level of accuracy, efficiency, and professionalism in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Position Summary Description Underwriting & Policy Processing - Underwrite and process commercial lines endorsements within assigned authority levels. - Support proactive policy renewals by reviewing account status and coverage adequacy prior to outreach. - Maintain clear and accurate documentation of all interactions and underwriting decisions in applicable systems. - Monitor outstanding items and follow through on pending requests until resolution, ensuring exceptional customer experience. - Customer & Agent Servicing (Calls/Emails) - Answer inbound phone calls from agents, policyholders, and other stakeholders regarding billing, policy documents, and claims setup. - Review and respond to policy-related inquiries received via phone and email, ensuring timely and thorough resolution. - Manage tasks and service requests indexed through the email and call systems, ensuring timely follow-up and closure. Certificate & Compliance Processing - Accurately issue certificates of insurance in accordance with client guidelines and state regulations. - Verify compliance requirements related to endorsements, certificates, and renewal documentation. - Relationship Management & Cross-Selling - Cross-sell additional lines of coverage when appropriate, in alignment with client and company goals. - Establish and maintain positive working relationships with agents, underwriters, and other internal teams. Education - Active Property & Casualty Insurance License required; must be able to obtain licensing in all 50 states. - Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. Work Experience - 3–5 years of experience servicing or underwriting commercial property & casualty insurance policies. - Prior experience in an agency or carrier environment with demonstrated customer service skills. - Call center or high-volume client service experience is a strong plus. Career Opportunity Role Title Senior Underwriter Purpose of role The Senior Underwriter is responsible for underwriting life insurance application using universally recognized underwriting principles by evaluating health, financial, lifestyle and other risk factors to determine the appropriate underwriting rate class, while managing and maintaining service levels and acceptable mortality results. The incumbent will work closely with and establish strong relationships with company stakeholders including New Business, Actuarial, Claims, and Distribution. Job Description Key Responsibilities - Review insurance application files for new business, reinstatements and coverage change requests - Establish and maintain effective relationships with producers, including communicating the underwriting decision - Balance investigative costs for tests/assessments versus risk management requirements to make informed underwriting decisions and determine steps to be taken to fully evaluate the application, including identifying additional required information and/or professional resource assessment reports - Order required medical tests/assessments, as required. Arrange for any additional required assessments from professional resource contacts and contact the producer to obtain missing application information - Research, interpret and analyze information relevant to the application, including product details, legislation, rate manuals, medical/drug reference books, applicant insurance history, motor vehicle reports and other relevant sources.
