The Infrastructure Team at Liftoff builds the tooling necessary for managing and monitoring thousands of servers which run dozens of services. This includes host provisioning and configuration, rapid code deployment, service configuration and monitoring tools, and automated code testing and linting. Liftoff moves around hundreds of TB of data each day, and this team owns most of the infrastructure which powers our real-time data pipelines. AS A BACKEND INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEER AT LIFTOFF, YOU WILL: - Have end-to-end ownership of projects, and collaborate with a small team of world-class engineers with diverse backgrounds. - Ship code multiple times a day, and within seconds see its quantified impact on millions of users and our business's revenue. - Be part of an “engineering excellence” culture through state-of-the-art tools, risk-driven testing, explainable systems, and code review. - Become an authority in Go and many other cutting-edge open-source technologies. - Join a nimble, consistently excellent, and experienced engineering team. REQUIREMENTS: - Strong coding ability - experience in Go is a plus - 8+ years of software engineering experience. - B.S. or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent work experience). - Solid core CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, architecting systems). - Experience with any major cloud technologies AWS, Azure, or GCP - Experience building high-scale distributed systems and backend architectures. - Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and ability to get things done. - Genuine interest and/or experience in debugging and troubleshooting complex distributed systems problems. - Ability to lead and collaborate across team and role boundaries to effect large-scale change in culture and systems. Locations: This role is eligible for full-time remote work in one of our entities/states and Canada: CA, CO, ID, IL, FL, GA, MA, MI, MN, MO, NJ, NV, NY, OR, PA, TX, UT, and WA. We are a remote-first company with US hubs in Redwood City, Los Angeles, and New York City. Travel Expectations: We offer several opportunities for in-person team gatherings, including but not limited to project meetings, regional meetups, and company-wide events. Compensation: Liftoff offers all employees a full compensation package that includes equity and health/vision/dental benefits associated with your country of residence. Base compensation will vary based on the candidate's location and experience. Your work will ensure consistency, reliability, and scalability in systems that power QTS’s global infrastructure. - Lead development and refinement of the DCIM Basis of Design (BOD) and owner requirements. - Manage and onboard AEOR Controls teams and Design System Integrators (DSI); conduct business reviews and calibration sessions. - Direct design consultants and partners on architecture, instrumentation, alarming, and integration requirements. - Develop and implement enterprise-wide controls and alarming standards across BMS/EPMS/SCADA platforms. - Define product and platform requirements for Aveva System Platform, Ignition, and open I/O frameworks. - Review sequences of operations, system architecture, and P&ID diagrams. - Establish point naming conventions, alarming logic, historical data trending, and DCIM integration schemas. - Oversee QA/QC during design, deployment, and commissioning phases. - Drive digital twin and simulation initiatives to validate controls logic pre-deployment. - Support procurement and project teams with SOW creation, RFP responses, and vendor onboarding. - Serve as technical escalation point for DCIM execution issues. - Influence control panel layout, I/O wiring diagrams, system interlocks, and cable schedules. - Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, IT, and construction teams to align controls with project goals. - Manage design change requests, RFIs, and updates to DCIM documentation. - Contribute to alarm optimization initiatives using FMEA methodology. - Mentor regional engineers and partners on QTS standards and quality expectations. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or equivalent experience. - 10+ years of experience with control systems in mission-critical environments (data centers, N+1 design). - Expert-level knowledge of EPMS, BMS, and SCADA platforms. - Experience with Rockwell, Schneider Electric, Siemens PLC platforms. - Proficiency in BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, TCP/IP, SNMP, and ISO 16484 standards. - Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage partner deliverables. - Strong understanding of sequences of operations, instrumentation documentation, and alarm hierarchy design. - Ability to travel up to 50% and work across multiple time zones.
