Role Description CommIT Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a Cloud Solutions Architect to join the team in Charleston, SC - can also be remote! The Cloud Solutions Architect is responsible for designing, governing, and optimizing the technical and functional architecture for a DoD customer. This role ensures the customer aligns with DoD policies, integrates effectively with enterprise systems, supports end-to-end workflows, and remains scalable, secure, and compliant. The architect partners with IT, cybersecurity, and data teams to translate mission needs into system capabilities and ensures the customer delivers reliable, user-centered outcomes. Responsibilities - Cloud System Architecture & Design: - Develop and maintain the enterprise architecture, including application, data, integration, and security layers within cloud environments. - Translate requirements into system designs and technical specifications. - Ensure the architecture aligns with DoD digital modernization, Zero Trust, and data interoperability strategies. - Integration & Interoperability: - Lead integration design with other cloud systems. - Define and manage APIs, data exchange standards, and interface control documents (ICDs). - Ensure compliance with data requirements, and authoritative data sources. - Functional Solutioning: - Work with project leadership, DevSecOps engineers, mission owners, and end users to understand workflows and translate them into system capabilities. - Design new cloud-based solutions for auditability. - Optimize mission owner experience, reduce process friction, and ensure system changes support mission outcomes. - Governance & Compliance: - Ensure the project meets cybersecurity requirements (RMF, Zero Trust principles, identity management). - Support audit readiness by embedding internal controls, traceability, and data integrity into system design. - Maintain configuration management, version control, and architectural documentation. - Technical Leadership & Roadmapping: - Work with program leadership, the release train engineer, and solutions train engineers to provide strategic input to the technical roadmap, including modernization, cloud adoption, automation, and data analytics enhancements. - Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements to performance, scalability, and maintainability. - Lead technical reviews, design sessions, and architecture boards. - Stakeholder Engagement: - Serve as the primary technical advisor to program leadership, the mission owner, and IT stakeholders. - Communicate complex technical concepts in clear, mission-focused language. - Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive delivery. Qualifications - Master’s degree with 6 years of experience (or Bachelors with 8 years of experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or relevant field. Degree may be substituted with additional relevant industry experience and/or industry accepted training and certification. - Experience developing the DevSecOps and Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) architecture of small systems or subsystems of larger systems. - Experience with cloud architectures (Azure, AWS) and modern integration patterns. - Experience with system integration, APIs, data modeling, and enterprise architecture frameworks. - Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (RMF, NIST 80053) and identity/access management. - Ability to translate business requirements into technical designs and system configurations. - Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills. Preferred Skills - Knowledge of DoD data standards, DLMS, and authoritative data sources. - Certifications such as DAWIA, PMP, CISSP, or TOGAF. - Background in best practices for IT Service Management (ITIL).
