Role Description CGS is seeking a Paralegal to process electronic legal instruments, assist with trial prep and hearings, and provide additional legal support for a large federal agency. - Provide Apprentice examination of legal instruments - Review legal instruments (completeness of information, proper execution) - Provides direct support to Litigation Support Unit, attorneys and paralegals regarding functional and administrative duties as needed - Determine correctness of action (per Government regulations, procedures, etc.) - Research records (to ascertain conditions that might preclude action) - Assists with various tasks within the Litigation Support Unit on a daily basis to include the processing of data and evidence for cases and the completion of discovery productions - Assist with the preparation of trial and hearing presentations and demonstratives - Collects and compiles statistical data as necessary for various reports - Provide assistance within the Administrative Division on project-based work as well as coverage of administrative duties during employee vacations - Proficiency with numerous software and databases including, but not limited to, MICROSOFT SUITE. Responsibilities: - Draft and update welfare benefit plan documents (e.g., medical benefits), including summary plan descriptions and summaries of benefits and coverage, in accordance with internal and client guidelines. - Participate in new group meetings for assigned accounts. - Understand and apply applicable laws and regulations in the preparation of welfare benefit plan documents. - Review client benefit materials to ensure alignment with organizational standards in order to create welfare benefit plan documents. - Provide operational support to team members and contribute to daily workflow activities. - Perform additional duties as assigned. This position will allow candidates to demonstrate expertise in performing legal review and FOIA request processing, amongst other litigation support tasks. - Conduct searches and analyze result sets to separate non-responsive documents from responsive documents. - Screen responsive documents for privilege or FOIA exemptions. - Redact and code responsive documents. - Perform legal research. - Draft legal documents.
