SaaS Platform Architect

Legion

Saas Platform Architect Remote, United States About Legion Technologies Legion Technologies is on a mission to turn hourly jobs into good jobs through intelligent automation and AI. Our AI-powered Workforce Management platform helps enterprises optimize labor efficiency while empowering hourly employees with flexibility, fairness, and control over their schedules. Our multi-tenant SaaS platform serves large enterprise customers globally, supporting complex scheduling, forecasting, compliance, and analytics workloads across web and mobile applications. We operate at scale — high data volumes, strict availability requirements, and enterprise-grade security standards. The architecture decisions you make here directly affect the scheduling fairness and financial stability of millions of hourly workers worldwide. Role Overview We are seeking a Saas Platform Architect to define and lead the architectural evolution of the Legion WFM Platform. You will architect the platform that our enterprise customers run on: designing and building the core systems. This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role responsible for shaping our multi-tenant cloud architecture to ensure scalability, resilience, security, and performance at enterprise scale. You will own architectural direction across backend systems, APIs, data infrastructure, and cloud-native services while partnering closely with engineering, product, and leadership teams. This role is ideal for a proven enterprise SaaS architect who thrives in distributed systems, takes ownership of platform strategy, and wants their architectural decisions to have real-world impact on millions of people. What You’ll Do Platform Architecture & Strategy - Define and evolve the architecture of Legion's multi-tenant SaaS platform. - Lead system design for highly scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed services. - Establish architectural patterns, standards, and long-term technical roadmaps. - Drive decisions around service decomposition, API strategy, and extensibility. Cloud & Infrastructure Leadership - Architect and optimize cloud-native systems on AWS. - Design for high availability, performance, security, and cost efficiency. - Own containerization and orchestration strategy (Docker, Kubernetes) in production. - Champion observability, reliability engineering, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code. Enterprise SaaS Excellence - Ensure secure enterprise-grade data protection at scale. - Lead performance tuning, scalability modeling, and database optimization. - Design APIs and integration patterns for enterprise customers and partners. - Support compliance and audit requirements common in enterprise environments. Generative AI & Engineering Enablement - Actively use Generative AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) as a standard part of your development and architectural workflow — demonstrated prior use is required. - Establish engineering-wide best practices for AI-assisted development, code review, and architectural validation. - Support the design and development of AI-native product capabilities. - Evaluate and integrate emerging AI/ML frameworks and LLM orchestration patterns (RAG, agentic workflows) into the core platform. - Drive measurable improvements in AI SDLC practices and engineering velocity through intelligent automation Technical Leadership - Lead design reviews and mentor senior engineers and principals. - Serve as the escalation point for complex production or architectural challenges. - Partner cross-functionally with Product, Data, QA, and DevOps. - Contribute hands-on to critical platform components, with a primary emphasis on architecture and technical direction. Required Qualifications - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. - 10+ years architecting multi-tenant, cloud-native SaaS platforms serving enterprise customers (building core product systems, not customer implementations). - Demonstrated active use of Generative AI coding tools in professional software development. - Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, MySQL, and RESTful API design. - Strong hands-on experience with AWS — including compute, storage, networking, and managed services at scale. - Demonstrated expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and large-scale data modeling. - Experience designing for high availability, fault tolerance, and performance under high-concurrency enterprise workloads. - Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) in production environments. - Strong DevOps fluency: CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, observability, and infrastructure as code. - Excellent technical communication and cross-functional leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications - Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features in production — including prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, or agentic workflow design. - Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch and real-time messaging systems (Kafka, SQS, or equivalent). - Experience with Datadog or equivalent observability platforms at enterprise scale. - Experience with feature flags and experimentation frameworks in high-scale SaaS environments. - Familiarity with multi-jurisdiction labor compliance requirements or other highly regulated enterprise domains. - Background in Workforce Management, HR Tech, or complex scheduling domains. - Experience in high-growth B2B enterprise SaaS environments. Legion delivers cutting-edge technology in an easy-to-use platform and mobile app that employees love. If you're ready to make an impact and grow your career, Legion is where you belong. Join us in making hourly work rewarding and fulfilling. BACKGROUND AND OPPORTUNITY There are almost 75 million hourly workers in the United States, representing more than half of the entire workforce. Historically, managing hourly employees has been difficult due to high attrition (average of 60%) and high replacement costs (average of $3,200 per employee in retail). The ongoing labor shortage and competition from the gig economy make it more difficult to attract and retain hourly employees. The top reasons hourly employees leave their jobs are a lack of schedule empowerment, poor communication with employers, and an inability to get paid early. Gen Z and the millennial workforce demand gig-like flexibility, modern technology, and compelling work options. Legion’s mission is to turn hourly jobs into good jobs, serving the hourly workers who make up the majority of the US workforce. We believe in empowering employees and helping employers be efficient and innovative by enabling intelligent automation powered by Legion’s Workforce Management platform to optimize labor efficiency and enhance the employee experience simultaneously. Legion WFM was built for the cloud with AI at the core and designed to handle the complexity of modern businesses and meet the needs of today’s hourly employees. Our team is comprised of dedicated individuals from all backgrounds and experiences, globally distributed across all time zones.
