About the role: Bixal is looking for a creative and detail-oriented UX Designer to shape a large-scale digital appointment scheduling platform for the federal government. This effort replaces outdated systems with a unified, secure, and accessible solution that improves efficiency for the public and government staff—supporting services like document processing, consular support, and emergency scheduling. In this role, you’ll bring expertise in UX design, multilingual content design, UX writing, and accessibility to create intuitive, inclusive, and user-centered solutions. You’ll work closely with product managers, researchers, engineers, and other partners to translate insights into seamless user experiences. Finalists should be prepared to present a portfolio of work demonstrating your knowledge, skills, and experience demonstrating the requirements listed in the Qualifications section below. This is a full-time position contingent on contract award by our client, with a defined performance period of one year with two one-year option periods. This role offers you a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a project that aligns with Bixal’s mission of delivering innovative, human-centered solutions. While the role has a fixed duration, we are committed to transparency and collaboration, keeping you informed about contract updates and new opportunities. Compensation: The salary range for this role is $92,000 – $95,000. In the spirit of transparency, most offers tend to land near the midpoint of the range. Responsibilities: - Apply human-centered design and UX best practices to design high-profile, public-facing government applications. - Create user personas, journeys, wireframes, prototypes, and refine UIs to communicate design concepts effectively. - Develop clear, concise content in English and Spanish to enhance usability. - Ensure compatibility with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers) through comprehensive testing. - Collaborate with designers, researchers, engineers, and product managers to align solutions with project requirements and timelines. - Use analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Crazy Egg) to analyze user behavior and iteratively improve usability. - Conduct accessibility testing to ensure compliance with Section 508 and WCAG 2.2 standards. - Lead usability testing and gather feedback to continuously improve the user experience. - Support the development of design processes, workflows, and standards that improve design operations. - Stay current with design trends, tools, and techniques, and share knowledge to promote innovation and improvement. - Perform other relevant duties as assigned, trained, and qualified to carry out. Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in a related field, plus at least four (4) years of relevant experience. - Demonstrated experience in UX design, preferably in a federal consulting or government environment. - Strong portfolio that demonstrates a range of UX design skills, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, and visual design. - Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD/CC. - Proficiency with tools such as GitLab, VSCode, Jira, and Confluence, enabling integration of design with Agile engineering workflows. - Demonstrated expertise with using accessibility testing tools such as Axe, WAVE and screen readers. - Understanding of human-centered design principles and methodologies. - Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. - Working proficiency in English and Spanish (both reading and writing). - Demonstrated familiarity with accessibility and Section 508 compliance guidelines. - Must be able to pass and maintain a Public Trust security clearance. Nice to Have Skills and Experience: - Experience with the Department of State, or government digital transformation projects. - Knowledge of digital appointment scheduling or public service technology.
