• Lead frontend engineering at Umbrel • Own major product surfaces in umbrelOS (web UI), first-party apps, and website • Collaborate closely with design to improve user interfaces
• Engineers on our team today: • Ships polished, accessible UI in React + TypeScript (Tailwind, Shadcn, Radix). • Work primarily in TypeScript, and dabble in Shell as necessary • Build APIs in Node.js • Are extremely supportive, especially when teammates are faced with new challenges • Are left to autonomously figure out solutions to their challenges • Think hard about every problem and its solution from user’s perspective • Value clear and frequent communication (we do a lot of reading and writing) • Enjoy being a generalist and are not tied down to a specific framework or surface area of our codebase • Are naturally curious and willing to learn something they don’t have experience in • Feel a great sense of accountability to each other • Have good judgement of when to ship: perfect is the enemy of good • Have a fundamental understanding of Linux/Docker/networking
• Develop and maintain the core components of umbrelOS, focusing on performance, stability, and security across different hardware architectures. • Ensure optimal integration and performance of umbrelOS on the Umbrel Home. • Design and implement system-level enhancements. • Conduct rigorous testing and debugging at the kernel level to handle system updates and compatibility issues.
• Review and test __app submissions__ for the Umbrel App Store • Identify bugs and issues in apps • Automate testing processes for umbrelOS apps • Work closely with the engineering team to track down umbrelOS-related bugs
• Support our users across all online channels (email, Discord, website chat, forums, social medias, etc) for non-technical issues (such as Umbrel Home order related queries) • Work with our logistics and fulfillment team to resolve order/shipping issues • Help users with various non-technical tasks, such as order modifications, returns, replacements, and repairs • Create how-tos, guides, wikis, knowledge base, etc for recurring questions
• Support our users across all online channels (email, Discord, website chat, forums, social medias, etc) • Create how-tos, guides, wikis, knowledge base, etc for recurring questions/issues • Collaborate with engineers on our team to debug through challenging technical issues
