Role Description This position involves preparing and providing training and instruction to children with disabilities, both individually and in groups, while motivating students to develop skills in assigned subject matters. - Teaching students with disabilities; motivating students to achieve maximum potential. - Assessing and evaluating needs of students. - Developing individualized educational programs and lesson plans. - Translating lesson plans into learning experiences based on needs and abilities of students. - Providing instruction in individual or group sessions. - Formulating and implementing functional behavior assessments and behavior assessment plans. - Participating in child study meetings. - Evaluating students' progress, maintaining appropriate records, preparing progress reports. - Maintaining professional competence through inservice education and self-selected professional books and instructional materials. - Establishing a class environment favorable to learning. - Administering standardized tests in accordance with established procedures. - Adopting teaching materials and methods to match the learning style of the student. - Integrating subject area content with technology. - Selecting and requisitioning books and instructional materials. - Participating in curriculum development programs, faculty committees, and student activity sponsorship as required. - Performing related tasks as required. Qualifications - Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of special education and specialty area. - Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities. - Thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations, and procedures. - Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior. - Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students, and parents. - Ability to operate a personal computer. Requirements - Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in an acceptable field. - Eligible for a Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement.
