Role Description The Assistant, Operations & Volunteer Engagement provides general support across the Operations and Volunteer Engagement Team’s project portfolio, focusing on board and Executive Committee management, Senior Leadership, and Executive Director support. - Manages calendar and performs general administrative duties and logistics for the Executive Director and Senior Staff on a daily basis. - Coordinates monthly Executive Committee calls and 1:1 conference calls between Executive Director and SfN President. - Assists with projects related to volunteer operations, meeting planning, communications, invitation lists, and other special projects. - Assists in meetings with note-taking and meeting minutes or summary preparation as needed. - Assists with planning and logistics for departmental functions at the Society’s annual meeting. - Assists in preparing annual meeting itineraries and meeting materials for the Executive Director, Officers, and Councilors. - Supports SfN’s awards programs, including the named awards and International Travel Awards, by coordinating with award selection committees and international partners. - Maintain Standard Operating Procedures and identify opportunities for efficiency. - Provides direct staff support to the Executive Director on-site at the Society’s annual meeting. - Works under direct supervision to perform technical or support tasks. - Performs administrative or specialized support tasks in an office setting. Role Description The Digital Engagement Associate I collaborates across SfN’s departments to help develop engaging email communications to attract and retain member audiences and contributes to implementation of SfN’s overall digital strategy. - 70%: Under the direction of the Digital Communications Manager, this role will serve as the primary staff member to prepare and schedule member email newsletters and other audience specific SfN emails, including the curation of content, email formatting, proofreading, and testing in HubSpot. - Collaborates with the Manager to develop email content and editorial calendars that enhance user engagement through email via HubSpot. - Contributes to the implementation of email communications strategies to increase website traffic or engagement with SfN’s other digital content. - Acts as the HubSpot data hygiene steward by supporting or conducting training on digital communications and best practices for SfN digital content contributors. - Compiles and maintains email analytics and reports, communicates key findings to internal stakeholders, and provides recommendations for email performance improvement. - Supports identifying needs and recommending new digital communications tools and software. - Acts as day-to-day contact for digital communication software vendors, like HubSpot. - 15%: Coordinates a selection of promotional campaigns for Digital Strategy with multi-channel needs, working closely with internal stakeholders. - Develops an understanding of SfN programs, departments, and functional areas and their impact on the organization. - Supports Digital Strategy preparation and needs for the SfN annual meeting. - 15%: Supports social media scheduling and data reporting using Vista Social, and other social media duties as assigned. Role Description The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) seeks a highly skilled development professional to serve as the primary lead for institutional grant funding and as a writer and strategist for funding proposals across federal, foundation, and corporate sources, as well as sponsorships and major gifts. This role is responsible for writing and managing funding documents including concept papers, letters of inquiry, proposals, agreements, and reports. - Serve as the primary lead for federal, foundation, and corporate grant proposals, including research, strategy development, and proposal writing. - Develop compelling cases for support aligned with SfN's mission, strategic priorities, and scientific impact. - Manage the full grant lifecycle including proposal submission, interim and final reporting, renewals, and closeout. - Support major and planned gift proposals, including drafting targeted narratives and impact reports. - Assist with institutional giving efforts tied to the SfN Annual Meeting and sponsorships. - Conduct prospect research on foundations, corporations, and government agencies to identify funding opportunities. - Coordinate with the Society’s program staff, finance team, and leadership to gather information required for proposals and reports. - Ensure compliance with all funder requirements and maintain accurate records. - Work collaboratively with staff, volunteer leaders, and external stakeholders. - Maintain accurate grant records in SfN’s contacts and grants management systems. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred. - 3-6 years of experience in grants, institutional fundraising, or development, with demonstrated success in proposal development and reporting. - Experience working with scientific societies, research organizations, or higher education preferred. - Direct experience with federal grants (e.g., NIH, NSF) strongly preferred.
