Description ABOUT REINVESTMENT FUND: Reinvestment Fund is a mission-driven financial institution committed to making communities work for all people. We bring financial and analytical tools to partnerships that work to ensure that people in all communities have the opportunities they strive for: affordable places to live, access to nutritious food, schools where their children can succeed, and strong, local businesses that support jobs. We use data to understand markets and how transactions can have the most powerful impact, and we build coalitions that can shift how entire sectors work to dismantle systems that perpetuate social and economic inequality. Since our inception in 1985, Reinvestment Fund has provided over $3.2 billion in financing to strengthen neighborhoods, scale social enterprises, and build resilient communities, where everyone can thrive and prosper. ABOUT THE POSITION: We are seeking a current graduate student to join our Lending & Investments team this summer as a dedicated intern. This Internship will support Reinvestment Fund’s work at the intersection of climate, clean energy, and sustainability—and will also provide exposure to adjacent priorities such as equitable, affordable housing and the use of data to inform analysis and measure impact. Since learning objectives and specific projects will be finalized after onboarding, the intern will collaborate with the Director, Clean Energy & Sustainable Finance to define a tailored workplan early in the internship. The internship is expected to include a mix of research, analysis, and clear written communication, with potential focus areas such as: - Market and policy research: research and synthesize relevant policy, incentive, and program landscapes (local/state/federal) to inform pipeline development across clean energy, sustainability, and climate resilience. - Impact measurement research: conduct desk research into how other organizations and initiatives measure impact in the climate/clean energy/sustainability space to inform refinement of Reinvestment Fund’s theory of change behind this work. - Place-based and equity context: develop a holistic understanding of the communities and markets where projects are located—drawing on both quantitative indicators and qualitative/contextual insights—to strengthen impact narratives and support mission priorities. - CDFI lending and loan process learning: gain exposure to the end-to-end CDFI loan lifecycle, including pipeline development/origination, intake and screening, underwriting and credit analysis, structuring and approval processes, closing and documentation, and post-closing monitoring—building an understanding of how mission goals, risk management, and compliance considerations are integrated into lending decisions. Requirements SKILLS AND EDUCATION: The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a relevant graduate degree program such as Finance, Accounting, Urban Planning, Business Administration, Real Estate Development, Economics, or Policy. To perform this job successfully, responsible students will: - Possess experience with research, analysis, and underwriting in the areas of real estate development and/or mission-aligned funds. - Be willing and able to take initiative and work independently, as well feel at ease asking for help when necessary. - Be able to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week during the summer months, up to a possible 37.5 hours per week.
