• Author and review patches to the PostgreSQL core engine: performance, features, bug fixes, and security. • Maintain Postgres extensions, both open-source (community projects we depend on) and proprietary (Planetscale-owned). • Review community patches with rigor on correctness, stability, and PostgreSQL coding conventions. • Engage the PostgreSQL community in design discussions, the 5 annual Commitfests, and conferences. • Root-cause Postgres issues affecting Planetscale customers and turn fixes into upstream patches when applicable. • Improve documentation for PostgreSQL and our extensions as part of every change.

• You will design and build the control plane that provisions, scales, and heals Postgres clusters with minimal customer-visible downtime. • You will build and maintain high availability, disaster recovery, and data protection solutions that keep customer databases safe through infrastructure failures. • You will tune Postgres to operate at scale for some of the largest and most demanding workloads in the world. • You will build tooling and automation for database operations, backup, restore, and migration workflows - and participate in an on-call rotation. • You will work directly with customers to understand their workloads and translate real-world needs into platform improvements.

• Design and implement security controls for PlanetScale's cloud-native database platform • Collaborate with engineering teams to conduct security reviews, threat modeling, and provide secure coding guidance • Focus on proactive red teaming and testing to identify vulnerabilities • Evaluate, procure, and implement proactive security tools • Work with compliance team to ensure adherence to security frameworks (SOC 2, PCI DSS) • Build security automation and tooling to scale security practices • Respond to security incidents and conduct post-incident reviews

• Create technical content to help customers and engineers at-large learn how Postgres, MySQL, Vitess, Neki, and the PlanetScale ecosystem works • Speak at conferences and events, representing PlanetScale in the database and engineering community • Create and refine product documentation • Host livestreams and webinars to engage with and educate our community • Your role may contain between 20-50% travel to connect with developers at events worldwide

• You will advise and handle support requests from enterprise customers on the PlanetScale platform. • You will become a customer-facing subject-matter expert for enterprise customers on the PlanetScale platform. • You will identify product gaps in a customer-specific context and work with Technical Account Management, Engineering and Sales Engineering teams to prioritize and escalate them. • You will be part of an on call rotation for high priority issues.

• Serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for the customer across a portfolio of enterprise accounts. • Oversee the customer onboarding experience, encompassing the evaluation phase through to steady-state operations, to guarantee customer success. • Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders to track and advocate for customers’ technical requirements. • Manage the negotiation of project milestone adjustments with customers. • Assist the Engineering team in the collection and prioritization of customer requirements across multiple accounts. • Develop methodologies to enhance efficiency for individual customer engagement and support interactions across multiple accounts. • Ensure that product-related inquiries are addressed promptly and that completed requirements are delivered to a high standard. • Collaborate cross-functionally to complete a diverse range of projects, such as documentation enhancements, migration tracking, and ticketing system improvements.

• Design web graphics including technical diagrams, illustrations, and interactive visual assets that simplify complex database concepts • Create compelling visual systems for campaigns, product launches, and marketing initiatives • Develop brand assets that maintain consistency while pushing creative boundaries • Design for multiple formats and contexts: digital, print, experiential, and merchandise • Design booth graphics, signage, and environmental branding for conferences, meetups, and community events • Collaborate with the events team to create memorable, on-brand experiences that stand out • Design merch that developers actually want to wear and use • Create branded collateral including banners, posters, stickers, and promotional materials • Partner with web and product marketing teams to design creative website components and landing pages • Design data visualizations, technical diagrams, and infographics that make complex information accessible • Create social media graphics, blog post imagery, and other digital marketing assets • Develop templates and design systems that enable the team to move quickly • Collaborate with marketing leadership to evolve and expand the PlanetScale brand identity • Explore new visual directions while maintaining brand coherence • Document design decisions and maintain brand guidelines • Mentor and provide feedback to other team members on brand application.

• Instrument Vitess, MySQL and PostgreSQL to emit performance data • Design, implement and maintain our data collection pipeline • Create intuitive dashboards and visualizations that surface actionable database insights • Develop APIs and integrations that expose insights data to customers • Collaborate with other teams to define the next generation of database observability features • Build tools for query analysis, performance profiling, and anomaly detection • Own features end-to-end, from initial design through production deployment and monitoring • Partner with customers and support teams to understand real-world observability challenges
