The Therapy Development Specialist (TDS) will drive downstream execution for U.S. marketing and Venus Thromboembolism Education (VTE) initiatives within a target region. This role will be a key member of the downstream marketing and customer engagement team partnering with sales management and the sales force to connect marketing initiatives to physician customers across the care path. The Therapy Development Specialist must be able to create large cross-functional coalitions, both internally and externally and will have significant interaction with the field-based sales force and sales leadership teams. They must be able to efficiently manage a large (multi-state) geography to drive VTE education programs and identify and develop resources. Consistent follow through to ensure that programs are impactful to physician customers, local/regional societies, and the local sales teams will be key. To meet the needs of our clients and those of our internal Team, we are prioritizing calls and interviews with TDS candidates in the South Florida area. Specific Duties and Responsibilities • Act as a regional VTE care path expert, driving improved care path knowledge across the regional teams you support while supporting a broad coalition of customers. These may include treating and managing physicians, administration, staff, and other personnel to drive VTE program optimization by acting as a liaison between PEN and all key stakeholders. • Must be able to prioritize key account work across multiple regions. • Develop and execute education and clinical care path strategies, drive (or support) clinical program development plans through innovative field education programs. • Manage account education initiatives throughout the project lifecycle and effectively communicate with regional sales team throughout. • Identify and develop care path KOL’s and educational program opportunities to utilize. • Identify, organize, and execute local/regional care path tradeshows & conferences and other meetings to optimize product and therapy awareness regionally. • Represent marketing as key point of contact within a defined Sales region. • Work closely with field sales leaders, sales, and clinical teams. • Be the regional expert in clinical data related to thrombectomy and stay current with product and therapy data and Penumbra collateral to incorporate into messaging for raising therapy awareness. • Assist with local PR initiatives related to the launch of products working with hospital marketing, Penumbra product marketing, and Penumbra communications team to drive therapy awareness in local market. • Drive understanding of patient & clinician insights within the therapy, including patient and care path physician behavior. • Establish and foster relationships with key customers and key opinion leaders within assigned region to enable podium representation of Penumbra products and to ensure that launches and programs are relevant to drive understanding and adoption of related products. • Assist in anticipating and responding to the needs of customers. • Ability to utilize analytic methods to capture and evaluate regional activities, including analysis and recommendation of new opportunities, and adapt new processes and strategies, as necessary. • Promote and maintain the Penumbra brand raising therapy awareness within assigned region. • Collect and share intelligence with manager on relevant competitive products, activities, and/or therapies for competitive products. • Adhere to the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS) as well as domestic and global quality system regulations, standards, and procedures. • Understand relevant security, privacy and compliance principles and adhere to the regulations, standards, and procedures that are applicable to the Company. • Ensure other members of the department follow the QMS, regulations, standards, and procedures. • Perform other work-related duties as assigned. Position Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of progressive responsibilities and experience in managing program development, quality initiatives, and LEAN Sigma engagements in the hospital or medical device field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience. • BSN/ RN who has experience as a PERT, VTE or Stroke Coordinator and/or has worked in ED, ICU, Pulmonology, or a related practice area is highly preferred. • A strong and creative thinker who is intellectually curious and has 3+ years of experience in program development, clinical quality improvement, and business to business (B2B) or field marketing. • Experience developing and executing strategic customer initiatives. • Program Management, especially LEAN Sigma experience, with a strong clinical background and sound decision-making capabilities, is a plus. • Strong team player able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic, team-based environment, who can incorporate input from others and generate consensus through inclusion. • Ability to speak up when important information or questions must be raised and take action when issues must be addressed. • Solid organizational skills and the ability to routinely work on multiple tasks with multiple people while effectively prioritizing work in an environment of often competing priorities. • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills for a wide variety of audiences, including sales & marketing leadership, and the ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external customers and marketing partners. • Willingness & ability to conduct company business outside of the typical Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, work-schedule. Annual Base Salary Range: $100,000 to $155,000 This is the pay range for a mid-cost labor market. If hired in another region, there will be a difference in pay range. The Clinical Specialist provides support to one or more regional sales teams in the areas of market development, procedural coverage, troubleshooting, education and training, customer service and follow-up. Candidates outside of the Billings, Bozeman, and Missoula, MT area will be considered, however, the candidate must reside within the region while in the role. Relocation expenditures will not be provided. What You’ll Work On Market Development • Work with Regional Sales Manager and team members to develop and implement a regional plan aimed at increasing market share and improving quality of service to customers. • Establish a system of communication with Regional Sales Manager and Territory Managers to ensure proper execution of plan and achievement of quarterly objectives. • Develop relationships with hospital personnel to expand contacts in other departments, identify key decision makers and facilitate future sales. • Meet with existing and potential customers to identify their clinical needs, goals and constraints related to patient care, and to demonstrate how Company products can help them achieve their goals. Education and Training • Educate existing and potential customers on the merits and proper clinical use of Company products by giving presentations and demonstrations, using slides, flow model, brochures and other platforms and formats. • Keep customers abreast of the latest product, therapy, and technology developments, and current items of interest in the industry. • Assist in professional education activities sponsored by Penumbra, including PEER meetings, hospital stroke symposia, and others. • Assist in training new employees, including Territory Managers and Clinical Specialists. • Participate in the development of Continuing Education Programs. Customer Service • Serve as primary resource for clinical support in the areas of procedural case coverage, basic troubleshooting, and follow-up for Company products. • Report and track all product incidents at centers, following Company procedures and seeking input from appropriate personnel to resolve problems. • Respond to customer needs and complaints by developing creative solutions, working in collaboration with senior management, sales, and marketing. • Prospect and develop relationships with prospective customers and/or users of Penumbra products, converting them to Penumbra customers • Secure and/or renew existing orders by coordinating product availability, delivery dates, and inventory levels • Maintain open communication lines with current and prospective customers on programs, promotions, and pricing trends • Develop relationships with physicians, lab staff, lab supervisors, and purchasing personnel • Adhere to the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS) as well as domestic and global quality system regulations, standards, and procedures. • Understand relevant security, privacy and compliance principles and adhere to the regulations, standards, and procedures that are applicable to the Company. • Ensure other members of the department follow the QMS, regulations, standards, and procedures. • Perform other work-related duties as assigned. What You Contribute • Requires Bachelor’s degree in communications, neuroscience, biology or related discipline, plus additional training and certification in radiology, neuro-interventional technology, or related field with 3+ years’ experience in a hospital setting or in a medical device company, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Sales or marketing background desired • Strong clinical, technical, and organizational skills • Ability to function in a busy, demanding, and competitive environment • Strong oral, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize assignments while handling various projects simultaneously Working Conditions General office, laboratory, and cleanroom environments. Business travel from +50%. Occasional on-call availability required 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Ability to wear 7-9 pounds of lead for extended periods of time in the angio suite. Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Requires some lifting and moving of up to 25 pounds. Must be able to move between buildings and floors. Must be able to remain stationary and use a computer or other standard office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine, for an extensive period of time each day.
