Title: Associate/Staff - Quest Designer Location: Irvine, CA Department: Design Job Description: Obsidian is looking for a designer passionate about creating amazing worlds and gameplay experiences to join us in developing our next great multi-platform RPG. At Obsidian, Quest Designers build our core game experience. They invent the places and quests that fill our worlds and then build them with our tools in collaboration with the larger team to bring them to life in game. The ideal candidate is someone who loves RPG gaming, be that on the dining table, a monitor, or a video call. We’re looking for someone who can create fun, deep, engaging stories and adventures and adapt them on the fly to suit a player’s choices and needs. This position requires the ability to work onsite or in a hybrid capacity at the Obsidian Entertainment office in Irvine, CA. Responsibilities - Design and implement quest and area content in Unreal Engine and proprietary tools - Script quests with branching dialogues and player choices, setting up encounters, filling the world with details and lore, inventing new places with history, culture, and problems, populating our world and bringing it to life - Understand and internalize the game's creative vision to make awesome creative decisions - Work with other designers and the game’s directors to ensure content is part of a cohesive open-world experience Requirements - Extensive experience as a game master and player for tabletop RPGs - Experience creating quests/missions on paper or digitally - A solid design sense, good communication and organization skills, and the ability to work with team members in a collaborative, goal-oriented way - Ability to receive and apply feedback iteratively on content Pluses - Familiarity with Obsidian games - Video game development experience - Experience working with Unreal Engine - Experience in the writing and creating of tabletop games or supplemental materials for existing RPGs (such as modules) Portfolio Requirements - Examples and demonstrations of game master experience. Role Description Obsidian Entertainment seeks a passionate and skilled Contract Senior Concept Artist to join our growing team of game developers. The Concept Artist will collaborate with a team of like-minded and talented creatives to conceive of inspired characters, environments, props, and other gameplay elements for an unannounced project. The contract duration is 6 months, with potential for extension. - Create inspired and exciting concepts of characters, environments, props, and events based on input from Art and Design leadership - Provide visual inspiration for the art team through reference gathering and concept work - Develop clear and well thought-through designs for asset artists to build upon - Actively participate in technical and aesthetic problem-solving discussions - Collaborate with outsourcing teams and provide artistic feedback to enhance their work Qualifications - 6+ years of game development experience - Strong organization and communication skills - Demonstrated skills using Photoshop as a concept artist - Strong foundational art skills and knowledge including design, architecture, human and animal anatomy, composition, perspective, color theory, and lighting - Receptive to art direction and critiques from project leadership and team members Requirements - Experience with any 3D DCC tools like Maya, 3dsMax, Blender, SketchUp, etc. - Background in Architecture, Photography or Cinematography, or Digital / Traditional Painting Portfolio Requirements - A web portfolio that demonstrates skill in environment, character, creature, vehicle, weapon, and prop concept development Portfolio Pluses - User Interface concepts - Graphic icons - Graphic design examples Benefits - The estimated base pay range for this role is: $65/hr. - $79.20/hr.
