Position: Health Care Project Coordinator Reports to: Managing Director, California Policy Advocacy Team Status: Full-time Exempt (limited to 36 months) Start Date: Immediate Location: Primarily Remote. THE ORGANIZATION The National Health Law Program (NHeLP) protects and advances the health rights of low-income and underserved individuals. NHeLP engages in national, state, and local advocacy efforts, including analyses of federal and state laws, policy advocacy, litigation, continuing legal education, and individual technical support. We work with lawyers and advocates, community- based entities, federal and state policymakers, health care providers, and clients. THE TEAM The Health Care Project Coordinator will be part of the California Advocacy Strategy Area (CASA) team operating NHeLP’s California-specific policy strategy which works to protect and expand access to quality, equitable health care for all people in California. Founded in Los Angeles, NHeLP has maintained a consistent and engaged presence in California since 1969. We work in collaboration with advocates and stakeholders to ensure health care laws, policies, and practices in California meet the needs of low-income and underserved people. We are also a support center for health and legal advocates across the state, including the statewide Health Consumer Alliance (HCA), a collaborative that provides individual health consumer assistance and policy advocacy, including legal representation, for low-income and underserved populations, as well as technical assistance and training to local legal aid programs and other health advocates. THE POSITION NHeLP is seeking a full-time Health Care Project Coordinator for a three-year (36 months) term. This is a project-based position. The Project Coordinator will work primarily with the CASA team. NHeLP’s CASA team work is focused on the implementation of H.R. 1, or the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA), to ensure as many Californians as possible maintain access to Medi-Cal and other sources of health coverage and benefits. The Project Coordinator will help develop and coordinate the team’s advocacy to implement and mitigate the harms of OBBBA in the State. The individual will develop and oversee a monthly OBBBA California Feedback Loop meeting for California-based advocates from legal and non-legal backgrounds who work with the low-income and underserved Medi-Cal populations. The position will involve a broad range of community engagement, project organizing, cross-sectional collaboration with our practice and strategy area teams and outside partners based in California. The Project Coordinator will ensure the smooth operation of our OBBBA-related projects in California, including recruiting and supporting California advocates working with the Medi-Cal population to join NHeLP’s Feedback Loop meetings and other relevant coalitions, developing community engagement campaigns, and support the CASA team on this project, including NHeLP’s California Managing Director and Assistant Director. The ideal candidate will have experience working with online communities and within underserved communities and will demonstrate an understanding of the issues that impact people with low income, BIPOC, LGBTQI+ individuals, people with disabilities, and other underserved populations. RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinate California H.R. 1 Advocacy (60%) - Develop, operate and overseer the monthly California OBBBA Feedback Loop and meetings, including identifying methods to ensure members’ participation from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, as well as promoting active engagement and ease of use; - Collaborate with the CASA team to identify and develop appropriate information and other materials for community partners and health consumers in response to OBBBA related implementation needs; - Support NHeLP’s policy staff in efforts to advance policies that protect access to health coverage and create the conditions for Medi-Cal beneficiaries to benefit; - Work with CASA team to organize and review information from the Feedback Loop meetings, identify patterns of concerns and develop recommendations on how to alleviate the issues, as appropriate; and - Develop newsletters or other publications for advocates, community stakeholders and the public across the State related to the Feedback Loop Project. - Facilitate the development of trainings and presentations as appropriate. Partner with Community Stakeholders (25%) - Represent NHeLP in coalitions and partnerships or other meetings, working closely with advocates and community stakeholders who work with Medi-Cal enrollees and applicants to ensure that solutions reflect the lived experiences of individuals across California; - Conduct outreach to local and statewide organizations and partners to encourage enrollment and participation in the Medi-Cal OBBBA Feedback Loop meetings; - Support the CASA team in their development and maintenance of relationships with national and state-based advocacy organizations engaged in California OBBBA-related advocacy. Administrative and Other Responsibilities (15%) - Assist in writing grant reports on work and document timekeeping; - Participate in internal meetings and working groups, as needed; and - Collaborate with development, communication, and operations teams to accomplish the CASAy team’s goals. QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited college or university (or equivalent experience); - Three (3) years of project coordination or management experience; - Experience in community or coalition building; - Strong communication and organization skills; - Ability to think creatively, and to work both independently and as part of a team; and - Commitment to the interests of low-income and underserved populations. MUST-HAVE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE - Demonstrated community and coalition building and engagement experience; - Familiarity with and established relationships with local communities within California; - Have an understanding of California’s health landscape, especially Medi-Cal and other health programs that serve marginalized communities; - Strong interpersonal and communication skills; - Possess a high level of independence and initiative, good judgment, excellent speaking and writing skills, organization, creativity, and an ability to model working with others toward common goals; - Demonstrated understanding of the role that racial inequity and other systemic disparities play in our society and in movement-building, and have an ability to effectively manage across difference and diverse lived experiences; and - Commitment to NHeLP’s mission and values. NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE - Direct service experience; - Ability to design email layouts, newsletters and manage contact lists in Constant Contact, or similar marketing platforms, including adding new subscribers and maintaining distribution lists; and - Deep knowledge of the Medi-Cal program and OBBBA as it pertains to Medicaid. COMPENSATION Compensation is competitive with other public interest organizations and commensurate with experience. The salary for a candidate with the minimum requirement of three (3) years of experience is $71,502.00. The Content & Brand Associate is a member of the Mission Advancement Team and works closely with communications, development, and program staff across the organization. RESPONSIBILITIES Brand Management & Implementation (20%) - Maintain and help build NHeLP’s brand identity across internal and external materials. - Create, update, and manage branded templates such as PowerPoint slides, fact sheets, reports, social media graphics, email banners, and event materials. - Maintain an organized, accessible library of brand assets including templates, logos, style guides, boilerplate language, and staff photos. - Review materials and provide feedback to ensure alignment with NHeLP’s visual and messaging standards. - Ensure coalition and partner-facing materials reflect accurate and current NHeLP branding. - Work collaboratively across departments to support high-quality, on-brand work products. Content Creation & Production (50%) - Design graphics and visual assets for social media, newsletters, web content, events, and fundraising campaigns. - Support video and audio editing projects, including short videos, clips, or podcast-related materials. - Assist with the creation of donor- and supporter-facing materials, including campaign toolkits and shareable content. - Stay current on digital content and design trends, platform changes, and emerging tools relevant to nonprofit communications - Coordinate with external designers, vendors, and consultants as needed to produce branded assets on time and to specification. COMPENSATION The compensation range for this position is between $60,910 and $64,718 annually. Compensation is competitive, commensurate with experience, and aligned with internal equity.
