Role Description The distance learning teacher plans, designs, implements, and assesses an appropriate instructional program in a secondary level distance learning environment that guides and encourages a diverse group of students at all instructional levels to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The teacher designs learning experiences, creates, and reinforces classroom expectations, develops assessments, monitors student progress, and communicates regularly with parents on student progress. At the secondary level, the teacher may be assigned to teach students from sixth through twelfth grade. Teachers are expected to promote an environment that is challenging, equitable, empowering, and developmentally responsive. The teacher helps build on secondary level fundamentals and prepares students through a variety of curriculum pathways available to support the transition beyond graduation from high school.
