Role Description We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Executive Ocean Marine & Cargo Underwriter to lead underwriting initiatives across complex marine, cargo, and transportation portfolios. This role is responsible for driving profitable growth, managing underwriting performance, and developing long-term broker and client relationships while maintaining disciplined risk selection and underwriting excellence. The ideal candidate will possess advanced expertise in Ocean Marine, Cargo, Inland Marine, and Transportation underwriting, with the ability to evaluate complex global exposures, structure customized insurance solutions, and contribute to enterprise underwriting strategy. Key Responsibilities - Lead underwriting strategy and portfolio management for Ocean Marine, Cargo, Inland Marine, and Transportation business. - Independently underwrite complex new and renewal risks involving domestic and international cargo operations, marine liabilities, stock throughput, logistics, warehousing, and global supply chain exposures. - Analyze financial statements, loss trends, operational controls, trade routes, commodity exposures, and catastrophe accumulations to determine pricing, coverage structure, and risk appetite alignment. - Develop and maintain strong broker, client, and distribution partner relationships to support profitable growth and market expansion. - Structure customized insurance solutions for multinational clients with complex marine and transportation exposures. - Collaborate closely with claims, actuarial, legal, compliance, engineering, and reinsurance teams to optimize underwriting performance and portfolio profitability. - Monitor portfolio performance through loss ratio analysis, rate adequacy reviews, catastrophe modeling, and executive reporting. - Develop underwriting guidelines, authority frameworks, and strategic growth initiatives aligned with enterprise profitability objectives. - Evaluate contractual risk transfer agreements, logistics operations, and international trade exposures to ensure appropriate underwriting controls. - Lead underwriting audits and ensure compliance with regulatory standards, corporate governance, and underwriting best practices. - Serve as a senior technical resource and mentor to underwriting teams, supporting talent development and underwriting consistency. - Monitor market conditions, geopolitical developments, trade disruptions, and competitor activity to proactively adjust underwriting strategy and appetite. - Support underwriting modernization initiatives, including workflow optimization, portfolio analytics, and data-driven underwriting decisions. Qualifications - 10+ years of Commercial Marine Insurance Underwriting experience with advanced expertise in Ocean Marine, Cargo, Hull, Inland Marine, or Transportation underwriting. - Strong technical knowledge of marine insurance coverage forms, international trade exposures, logistics operations, and global cargo transit risks. - Demonstrated ability to manage underwriting profitability and maintain accountability for portfolio performance. - Proven underwriting judgment involving complex domestic and multinational marine risks. - Strong analytical, financial, and decision-making capabilities. - Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills. - Experience collaborating across underwriting, claims, legal, actuarial, engineering, compliance, and reinsurance functions. - Ability to evaluate complex supply chain exposures and emerging transportation risks. - Proficiency in underwriting analytics, portfolio management tools, Microsoft Excel, and reporting platforms. - Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, AMIM, or progress toward certification preferred. Benefits - Base salary range for this position is $170,000-$100,000 plus eligibility for a performance-based annual bonus. Role Description We are hiring a Risk Engineer, Engineering Lines who will deliver advanced risk assessment solutions for internal and external stakeholders. - Conduct risk engineering surveys for construction risks and civil engineering completed risks. - Perform desktop reviews of insurance submission and engineering reports to provide risk quality system valuations as requested by our underwriters. - Prepare comprehensive risk assessment reports by utilizing proprietary tools and systems. - Provide reports in a timely manner in agreement with underwriters and in accordance with HRC Risk Engineering guidelines. - Attend client presentations as required by the underwriting team. - Participate in internal expert groups and implement HRC Risk Engineering tools. - Work closely and assist the underwriters. - Keep up to date with the latest technological developments in key industries and provide technical updates to underwriters. - Deliver risk engineering consultation to our customers in the form of insurance risk surveys, risk improvement recommendations, loss mitigation proposals and specifications. - Formulate risk improvement recommendations to ensure suitable risk management practices and controls. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree or higher in civil engineering or related field. - 4+ years of experience as an engineer. Project experience in construction. - Professional involvement in pre-construction, procurement, BIM, logistics, EHS, QA/QC, and risk management in construction projects. - Knowledge of risk assessments (fires, explosions, business interruption and natural hazards). - Knowledge of American and International standards and regulations relating to civil engineering, including OSHA. - An excellent understanding of industry best practice. - Team player, with strong business sense, communication skills and client service mindset. - Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office products). - Ability to travel (up to 20%).
