Hastings Insurance is seeking a Property Claims Representative (Desk Adjuster) to join our Claim team. This role is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and resolving property claims from initial report through final settlement, all within a desk-based environment. You will play a key role in delivering a smooth and supportive claim experience, balancing customer service with sound decision-making and attention to detail. Location & Work Eligibility Requirements: This position is posted at our base claim representative level, with flexibility to consider more experienced property adjusters for alignment at a higher level based on background and expertise. Candidates newer to property claims should be located within a reasonable distance of our Hastings, Michigan headquarters to support in-person training and onboarding. Experienced property adjusters may be considered for remote work within our five-state footprint of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, or Wisconsin. Regardless of location, this role follows a standard Monday through Friday schedule during our core business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. What You’ll Do: - Manage a personal caseload of property claims from initial assignment through resolution. - Investigate losses by reviewing claim details, gathering documentation, and assessing coverage. - Evaluate damages and determine appropriate settlement outcomes within authority. - Communicate clearly and consistently with policyholders, agents, and vendors throughout the claim process. - Review estimates, invoices, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness. - Coordinate with contractors, adjusters, and other service providers as needed. - Identify and pursue salvage and subrogation opportunities when applicable. - Establish and maintain appropriate reserves throughout the life of each claim. - Document all claim activity thoroughly and accurately within the claim system. - Identify potential fraud indicators and refer as appropriate. - Collaborate with internal partners across underwriting, loss control, and other departments. - Participate in ongoing learning and development to build claim knowledge and expertise. What You’ll Bring: - Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Prior experience in property claims adjusting preferred for more experienced candidates. - Strong customer service and communication skills. - Ability to make sound decisions and apply critical thinking in claim situations. - Comfort managing multiple tasks and priorities in a structured environment. - Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office. - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. • Manage a personal caseload of property claims to ensure accurate and timely resolution. • Investigate, evaluate, and settle claims in accordance with policy provisions and legal obligations. • Communicate regularly with policyholders, claimants, and agents to guide the claim process and provide updates. • Ensure claim outcomes are fair, equitable, and supported by thorough analysis. • Identify and pursue salvage and subrogation opportunities to minimize loss. • Direct and collaborate with external vendors such as independent adjusters and inspection services. • Maintain detailed and accurate claim documentation within the claim system. • Establish and adjust case reserves based on claim exposure and progression. • Identify potential fraud indicators and refer matters to the Special Investigations Unit as appropriate. • Coordinate with internal partners including Underwriting, Sales, and Loss Control to support overall business effectiveness. • Serve as a resource to team members and assist with training or mentorship as needed. • Participate in special projects and ongoing professional development.

• Champion profitable Middle Market growth across Ohio and Indiana • Develop and execute a Middle Market growth strategy across Ohio and Indiana • Build consultative, results-driven partnerships with independent agencies focused on commercial new business production • Identify and recommend new agency appointments aligned with regional expansion efforts • Provide underwriting guidance within authority, supporting disciplined risk selection and profitable growth • Partner with Commercial Underwriting leadership to align appetite, pricing strategy, and field execution • Conduct and continually monitor agency business planning and compensation implementation efforts • Deliver targeted training to agency partners on Hastings’ commercial products, quoting strategy, and submission quality • Analyze territory performance and market conditions to inform strategic growth initiatives • Monitor agency production and profitability trends; recommend actions to improve performance • Travel regularly within Ohio and Indiana to maintain strong agency engagement
