Title: Academic Coach Location: Richland Part time job requisition id R12585 Weekly Work Hours 19.5 Compensation Range HB2 Hourly Rate $23.78 Hourly FLSA United States of America (Non-Exempt) Position Type Staff Position Summary Provides individual and group academic coaching sessions in an open lab, virtual, and/or one-on-one setting in support of instructional programs. Participates in developing academic resource materials as required. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Demonstrates knowledge and skills in tutoring students in specific academic area(s) in an open lab and/or self-paced setting. - Ability to conduct group and individual tutoring sessions for students; determines what skill areas require additional assistance. - Experience assessing the progress of assigned students to ensure effective learning results are obtained. - Must be able to explain concepts in a manner that students understand. - Ability to perform essential functions utilizing knowledge and skills within the specific subject area(s) of support. - Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with students, staff, and faculty regarding tutor/student assignment(s). - Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship. - Ability to assist students in the development of study skills and techniques to help improve their academic performance. - Ability to provide excellent academic expertise and adapt tutoring methods to meet the student needs. - Must be flexible and able to adapt to change; must demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills. - Must be punctual, begin all sessions promptly, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the student’s needs. - Must be technologically proficient and be able to assist students with basic technical skills. - Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required to effectively assist students and staff within the Dallas College community network. - Knowledge and experience providing effective customer service. Key Responsibilities - Provides tutoring to Dallas College students in open lab/self-paced settings through collaborative interactions to assess student needs, provide constructive and accurate feedback, engage critical thinking, and encourage independence. - Conducts workshops and/or boot camps on various subjects that support student learning - Fosters a positive learning environment while guiding students through the learning process as it pertains to understanding and engaging with coursework, assignments, and projects. - Works with students individually or in small groups to utilize resources, clarify concepts and complete assigned material. - Provides input in developing and maintaining resource materials needed to demonstrate learning objectives for use in tutoring environment. - Maintains records as required under department guidelines. - Maintains strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship. - Helps students to develop study skills; refine and apply understanding of course material and key concepts learned. - Utilizes excellent communication skills and adapts tutoring methods to meet the needs of the student. - Maintains confidentiality of student records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Ensures offices and files are adequately secured on a daily basis. - Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Role Description The Student Success Coach is an essential role designed to provide concierge-styled student case management, providing comprehensive support including advising, career exploration, continuous progress monitoring, and connection to a broad network of internal and external wrap-around services. - Providing high-impact engagement and continuous monitoring, tracking, and support from enrollment to completion. - Success Coaches are the consistent single point of contact, responsible for helping students navigate their higher education journey towards a career. - Teams serve traditional, dual credit/early college/P-Tech, continuing education, and a variety of other specialized student populations. - Leverages emerging technology to streamline student communication, tracking, and service efficiencies. Qualifications - Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College. - Knowledge of Dallas College certificates, programs, and degrees. - Thorough understanding of college and community resources that address holistic student needs. - General knowledge of baseline financial aid and FAFSA information. - Knowledge of Dallas College, State and Federal policies and procedures impacting service to students. - Ability to leverage emerging technology to track and monitor student progress towards completion goals. - Experience preparing concise and clear written and verbal reports detailing case management activity and outcomes. - Ability to assist students in identifying and navigating barriers that impact retention, persistence, completion, and success. - Depth of knowledge and experience in academic advising, coaching, Guided Pathways, first-year experience, retention, and career services. - Strong commitment to shared accountability and high-quality customer service and care. - Experience effectively engaging and supporting students in a remote work environment. - Familiarity with relevant national policies, practices, and legislation that relates to retention, success coaching, and pathway development and support. - Ability to respond appropriately to issues in a dynamic rapidly changing educational/economic environment. - Understanding of emerging technologies and the effective application of service technologies to enhance student academic planning, tracking, and engagement. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from a full range of diverse populations. - Experience working with underserved and marginalized communities. - Commitment to continuous learning and professional development. - Excellent time management, organization, problem-solving, and communication skills. - Strong listening, writing, and verbal skills. - Excellent interpersonal skills using collaboration, tact, patience, and courtesy.
