The person in this position will be responsible for conducting a census on bird breeding in the area, gathering data and reporting on findings. General Duties and Responsibilities 1. Conduct bird surveys using both visual and auditory methods to identify species and determine their abundance 2. Collect and report breeding bird data 3. Train and mentor undergraduate research assistants in field ornithology methods 4. Other duties as assigned. Education and Skills 1. Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of research experience 2. Must have experience in conducting breeding bird censuses 3. Have the ability to identify the distinctive songs and calls of all regularly occurring breeding bird species of woodland and early successional habitats in southeastern CT 4. Able to locate individual singing birds aurally or visually and map their positions 5. Be on site in the Bolleswood Natural Area of Connecticut College for the first two to three hours after dawn 6.
