Role Description Bat Conservation International (BCI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ending bat extinctions worldwide, seeks a Santa Fe Assistant Project Manager to join BCI’s HP&R Program. The Santa Fe Assistant Project Manager must be highly collaborative and enjoy working within an environment that is mission and results-driven, where they can bring their knowledge and passion to work and contribute to the mission of BCI. The Santa Fe Assistant Project Manager will support restoration efforts in the 2022 Hermit Peak-Calf Canyon (HPCC) fire scar located within the Santa Fe National Forest. Their work will focus on post-fire recovery efforts within the 342,000-acre HPCC scar and adjacent impacted areas of Santa Fe National Forest. This position is remote/work from home and will require travel to field sites and partner meetings. Remote work requires reliable internet access. Work may require overnight camping in front and backcountry settings, potentially for extended periods. Primary Responsibilities and Expectations - Report to the Northern New Mexico Project Manager. - Work closely with other members of the Habitat Protection and Restoration program to support planning, development, and implementation of HPCC range infrastructure and recovery projects. - This position is grant funded until August 2029. Additional project funds may extend the position well beyond 2029. - Ideal for a restoration practitioner, biologist, hydrologist, range management specialist, or conservationist with interest and experience in planning and/or implementing natural resource improvement and watershed restoration projects. Position Description - Work with the Northern New Mexico Project Manager to assess, plan, and implement range infrastructure (spring development, range fencing, and corral construction) projects within the HPCC burn scar. - Perform contractor oversight and inspection of range fencing projects. - Conduct ongoing communication internally and with partners on the status of project planning, implementation, and project successes. - Provide logistical and supervisory support for field crews. Qualifications - Undergraduate degree in natural resource management, wildlife biology, biology, forestry, botany, hydrology, engineering or related field or four (4) years of relevant work experience in conservation, ecological restoration or natural resources. - A minimum of one (1) year of professional experience with proven results in project management, planning, or oversight related to construction, range management, watershed restoration, wildlife habitat, or related disciplines. - Knowledge of and experience in Federal land management policies, procedures, and regulations. - Ability to work, communicate, and ask for support effectively with all levels of staff, government agencies, industry, landowners, and other partners. - Ability to work and hike in remote post-fire landscapes with accompanying gear. Requirements - Ability to work independently, perform fieldwork, and manage projects with minimal oversight. - Ability to effectively lead and be led. - A strong attention to detail, and skill working in a timely and well-organized fashion. - Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills. - A valid U.S. Driver’s License. Preferred Knowledge/Experience - Proficiency with GIS and managing geospatial data, including shapefiles, geodatabases, and KML/KMZ. - Experience with apps such as Survey 123, Field Maps, Avenza, and OnX for collecting data and/or navigation. - Experience writing contracts and specifications. - Knowledge and use of heavy equipment/machinery. - Knowledge of bat biology and ecology, rangeland management, and conservation and wildlife management principles. - Experience with planning or implementing LTPBR projects. - Current WFR certification. Bat Conservation International Restoration Team Lead Western United States Status: Full Time, Salaried Reports to: Director of Habitat Protection and Restoration (HP&R) (Jason Corbett) Supervises: Sr. and Restoration Specialists, NPS Ecology Field Lead Key Relationships: Director HP&R, Compliance Team Lead, Subterranean Team Lead, Geospatial Team Lead, Director, Endangered Species Interventions (ESI), Chief, Global Conservation and Strategy Salary: $85,000+ annually + benefits BCI and our Mission Bat Conservation International (BCI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ending bat extinctions worldwide, seeks a Restoration Team Lead to join BCI’s HP&R Program. The Restoration Team Lead must be highly collaborative and enjoy working within an environment that is mission and results-driven, and contribute to the mission of BCI, the HP&R program, and lasting, positive ecological change. BCI is a distributed organization with staff across the United States. The Restoration Team Lead can live anywhere in the western US but will be directing and coordinating conservation projects across the US, heavily emphasizing the southwestern United States, particularly in New Mexico and Arizona and thus being located in or willing to relocate to, either of those states will be a bonus. Primary Responsibilities and Expectations The Restoration Team Lead will lead, manage, and occasionally perform a variety of conservation activities that benefit bats and their habitats including, but not limited to: surveys of springs and seeps, restoration of various water and foraging resources, post-wildfire restoration of forested and desert landscapes, inventory, survey, , conversion of abandoned mines with water to bat friendly wildlife drinkers, repopulating areas with wild agaves, restoration of roosting and foraging habitat in forest stands, maximizing such habitats through various techniques such as prescribed fire and selective thinning and fuel removals, and overseeing team safety and training. . This position is ideal for a biologist, ecologist, natural resource manager, or conservationist with interest and experience conducting/managing restoration work across various landscapes, managing and coordinating collaborative projects, managing a diverse staff with a variety of skillsets, and communicating with various partners and stakeholders. Primary duties will be to develop and manage staff, workflows, partnerships, project work, grants and agreements, and internal and external collaboration to improve efficiency and increase opportunities coming into the team. Position Description: The Restoration Team Lead will: - Lead, supervise, and manage BCI’s Restoration Team focused on implementing restoration practices across landscapes to provide foraging habitat and drinking water resources for bat populations in a changing climate. - Lead partner communications and relationships relating to restoration. - Direct leadership, supervision and management of staff positions within the team. - Coordinate with the rest of HP&R, ESI, and Science on projects and development. - Support environmental compliance tasks as a part of the NEPA process, including Cultural Resource Surveys - Develop restoration projects and partnerships in key focal areas and new areas. - Management and coordination of grant and agreement development.
