Role Description The Barrick Africa & Middle East Team are seeking to recruit an UG Short Term Scheduling Specialist – AME & LATAM. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets and with our teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner towards achieving targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures. Duties & Responsibilities - Promote safety standards across all operations, including contractors on site, in line with Barrick’s Journey to Zero Harm. - Align site activities to the business plan and broader business goals. - Provide governance for all UG operations that are realistic and achievable whilst driving performance improvements and exploring development opportunities. - Assist in developing short term budgets and cash flow forecasts for the region. - Manage the operational performance of sites. - Provide technical guidance to the site and regional teams, spending time on ground and engaging regularly to track progress. - Ensure optimal performance of underground operations whilst proactively addressing and overcoming potential obstacles. - Develop the capability of site leadership teams. - Build a relationship of trust and respect, and proactively performance manage with feedback and interventions to drive individual and team performance. - Provide career growth opportunities for leaders and ensure adequate succession planning is in place. - Act as a key interface between ExCo and underground sites. - Update the AME & LATAM ExCo on a weekly basis, distilling important information and reporting on the sites’ UG technical performance against the business plan, including key challenges and necessary actions. - Build and maintain Barrick’s License to Operate. - Work closely with site GMs and Country Managers to drive engagements with host nation stakeholders, such as government agencies, local communities, and suppliers. - Ensure awareness of differing requirements across all sites. - Play a key role in the localisation of the workforce, bringing nationals through and managing their careers. - Implement and sustain the AME & LATAM UG Mining Management Operating System (MOS). - Regional operational oversight to ensure underground mine plans capture, quantity and escalate where changes/variations are required. - Sign off to account for additional resource and cost requirements inclusive of Planning Risk reviews to ensure flexibility is there. - Build flexibility into the mine plans, through quantifying risks and opportunities, and determining minimum KPI levels per site. - Standardise mining operational and cost models to track and forecast key business outputs efficiently and accurately to drive Group wide cost reduction initiatives. - Build and roll out a more integrated weekly planning template (7+21) for all UG mines. - Build technical capability and standards. - Develop regional Mine Design Standard. - Establish bi-weekly ROW Mine Design review board. - Provide technical input and guidance into long term planning to ensure sustained, highly efficient UG mining operations. - Standardise software requirements through the use of the available Deswik, VentSim and PumpSim packages. Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering. Requirements - Minimum of 10 years’ experience in underground mining operations, mine planning or technical services, with strong exposure to short-term scheduling, operational execution and performance improvement across complex underground mining environments. - Demonstrated experience in developing, reviewing and governing underground short-term mine plans, including 7+21 planning, risk and opportunity identification, KPI tracking, resource requirements and cost implications. - Strong technical capability in underground mine design, sequencing, scheduling and operating model development, with the ability to translate long-term plans into practical, executable short-term schedules. - Proven ability to provide technical guidance to site and regional teams, identify operational constraints, drive corrective actions and support the achievement of safety, production, cost and business plan targets. - Advanced proficiency in underground planning and design software, including Deswik, VentSim and PumpSim, with the ability to standardise software usage and improve planning capability across multiple sites. - Excellent leadership, coaching and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust, influence senior site leaders, develop technical capability and support succession planning across underground operations. - High level of safety leadership and commitment to operational discipline, with experience promoting safe work practices and supporting continuous improvement aligned to Zero Harm principles. Role Description This role leads the implementation of safety and health standards for the North America Legacy sites in alignment with Barrick’s commitment to creating a Zero Harm Workplace. The successful candidate will work with site teams and regional safety resources to ensure critical safety risks are systematically identified and controlled in accordance with internal and external requirements. The role is remote, with travel required. - Provide visible safety leadership and drive a strong health and safety culture - Lead the implementation of standards to address critical safety and health risks - Provide leadership, promote awareness, and be a resource in safety and health related matters for employees and contractors - Guide safety practices across multiple remote sites with limited on-site presence - Serve as a resource or facilitator for incident investigations (ICAM or 5 Whys analysis) to ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions developed to prevent recurrence - Facilitate risk assessments, management of change requests, and development of standards, procedures, and legal obligation registers - Provide safety and health coaching, mentoring, and training to employees, and develop orientation and training materials - Participate in internal inspections and audits, and guide development of corrective actions to facilitate continuous improvement - Maintain accurate documentation and data entry, complete internal and external reports, and share lessons learned - Lead implementation and maintenance of Cority and other systems as required - Coordinate and chair the NA Legacy Health & Safety Committee - Work with all employees and staff to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company standards and systems Qualifications - Associate degree in a safety-based curriculum or a Bachelor of Science degree (may be waived for significant Occupational Safety and Health experience) - Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Safety and Health industry, preferably in the US or Canada - Knowledge and working experience with mine closure, mining, construction or water treatment activities - Working knowledge of US and/or Canadian mine safety requirements (e.g. MSHA, OSHA, WorkSafe BC etc.), applied based on site-specific activities - Strong people leadership, coaching and influencing skills with direct reports, indirect reports, and peers - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Strong organization, planning, and problem-solving skills - Professional safety certifications (e.g., CSP/CRSP) - Experience with management systems (ISO14001 or ISO45001) - Excellent safety record with ability to demonstrate safety leadership - Ability and willingness to travel within the US and Canada
