Role Description Our client is a leading renewable energy developer and operator, seeking an experienced Interconnection Engineer to join their team on a 12-month contract. This senior-level role is critical for managing the interconnection process for utility-scale renewable energy projects from application through Commercial Operation Date (COD). The ideal candidate will become the Subject Matter Expert for assigned Independent System Operators (ISOs), coordinating between internal engineering/construction teams and external Transmission Owners/Operators. This is a high-impact position requiring deep knowledge of interconnection agreements, power purchase agreements, and grid integration requirements. Key Responsibilities - Manage interconnection engineering deliverables from application submission through Commercial Operation - Serve as Subject Matter Expert for assigned ISO/RTO regions (PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, CAISO, NYISO, ISO-NE) - Coordinate submittals and deliverables with Transmission Owners, ISOs, and Power Purchasing Agreement clients - Review draft Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Interconnection Agreements, providing critical engineering feedback - Track and manage all interconnection milestones, deliverables, and compliance requirements - Interface with TOs, ISOs, and PPA clients on design, performance, telemetry, back-feed, and synchronization requirements - Support engineering, construction, and commissioning teams with interconnection-related technical guidance - Ensure all requirements for initial synchronization and Commercial Operation Date are met Qualifications - 11-15 years of relevant experience in interconnection engineering or power systems engineering - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems emphasis preferred) or equivalent professional experience - Deep understanding of ISO/RTO interconnection processes and requirements - Experience reviewing and providing feedback on PPAs and Interconnection Agreements - Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables across different ISO regions - Strong knowledge of grid integration requirements for renewable energy projects - Excellent communication skills for interfacing with internal teams and external stakeholders - Ability to work independently in a remote/hybrid environment Requirements - ISO/RTO Processes - Interconnection Agreements - Power Purchase Agreements - Grid Integration - Renewable Energy Benefits - Competitive hourly rate with potential for extension - Remote/hybrid work flexibility - Opportunity to work on cutting-edge renewable energy projects - Exposure to multiple ISO regions and interconnection processes - Professional development in a high-growth industry sector - Weekly pay through established staffing agency Application Note This is a contract position through a staffing agency. They are seeking a seasoned Project Engineer specializing in Thermal Management for Lithium-Ion Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This is a critical contract role where you will provide engineering leadership on utility-scale energy storage projects from initial design through commissioning and handover. You will act as the technical authority on thermal systems, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and reliability of large-scale BESS installations. This role offers the opportunity to shape standards, develop best practices, and directly impact the success of cutting-edge renewable energy infrastructure. Key Responsibilities - Evaluate thermal design aspects of major components (chillers, HVAC, liquid cooling systems, etc.) for utility-scale energy storage projects. - Develop and prepare technical scopes of work for thermal management studies, analyses, and detailed designs for incorporation into engineering and construction contracts. - Provide full lifecycle project support from conception through commissioning, including potential on-site commissioning activities for critical projects. - Serve as the primary engineering guide for project teams and provide oversight of external Engineers of Record (EOR). - Collaborate directly with equipment suppliers and vendors on thermal system sizing, controls strategy, technology compatibility, and system integration. - Partner with multi-disciplined internal teams (electrical, civil, controls, project management) on complex problem-solving, system integration, and continuous process improvement. - Identify lessons learned, develop and implement process improvements, and create tools/standards to maximize BESS performance and reliability. Qualifications - Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. - Advanced degree is a plus. - 5+ years of progressive engineering experience, with a significant portion focused on thermal/fluid systems design, analysis, or project engineering. - Proven experience with thermal management of Lithium-Ion battery systems, preferably in utility-scale or large commercial/industrial energy storage applications. - Strong background in evaluating and specifying major thermal components (e.g., chillers, pumps, heat exchangers, cooling towers, ductwork). - Experience developing technical specifications, scopes of work, and providing engineering oversight for EORs and contractors. - Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC). - Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with a customer-service mindset for internal and external stakeholders. - Ability to work effectively in a remote, cross-functional team environment. Role Description Our client is a leading force in the North American renewable energy sector, driving the transition to a sustainable future. We are seeking a seasoned Senior Project Manager to play a pivotal role within their Interconnection Services team. This is a high-impact, contract position where you will be the technical and procedural expert managing the full lifecycle of generator interconnection projects within key regional transmission organizations (RTOs/ISOs). Your work will be critical to bringing new renewable generation assets online and supporting the company's strategic growth initiatives. Key Responsibilities - Lead and manage the generator interconnection process from application filing through to final agreement execution for projects within the MISO and SPP regions. - Act as the primary subject matter expert on interconnection, providing guidance to internal project development, originations, and M&A teams. - Oversee queue management, including the review and analysis of System Impact Studies (SIS), Facility Studies, and associated interconnection studies. - Negotiate and manage Generator Interconnection Agreements (GIAs) and amendments with Transmission Owners (TOs) and the ISOs. - Collaborate with internal engineering and external consultants to evaluate study results, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies for interconnection constraints. - Ensure compliance with all NERC reliability standards and ISO/RTO procedural requirements throughout the interconnection lifecycle. - Support due diligence for merger & acquisition (M&A) activities and greenfield project development from an interconnection perspective. Qualifications - 11-15 years of progressive experience in the electric utility or renewable energy industry, with a strong focus on transmission planning and generator interconnection. - Deep, hands-on experience with the interconnection processes of MISO and/or SPP is essential. - Strong power systems engineering background with a thorough understanding of steady-state, dynamic, and short-circuit analysis. - Proven experience using industry-standard analytical tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PowerGEM TARA, TSAT, and/or ASPEN. - Expert knowledge of NERC reliability standards and transmission planning principles. - Demonstrated success in negotiating complex agreements with utilities and ISOs. - Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple high-stakes projects simultaneously. - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related technical field. A Master's degree or PE license is a strong plus.
