Job Summary Under general supervision of the, Manager of Enterprise Operations, this position is responsible for the operation, reliability, and delivery of campus data platforms and analytics services. Primary activities include improving, monitoring, and maintaining data warehouse delivery services. In addition, this position will develop and maintain database views for existing data, execute manual processes, and deliver ad hoc data requests from campus data stores, utilizing standard methodologies, current technologies and DevOps philosophies. #CalPolyITS This position is eligible for remote work pursuant to Cal Poly’s Telecommuting and Remote Work Guidelines and the CSU policy requiring that all work be performed within the State of California. Department Summary Information Technology Services (ITS) is a fast-moving team that is responsible for helping Cal Poly achieve academic excellence through developing and implementing learning, teaching, and administrative solutions which leverage technology that align with strategic goals and objectives. With a focus on continuous improvement, ITS fosters innovation, supports continuous learning, and develops people to their full potential. Our team of more than 170 professionals works in a DevOps environment to shape the technology landscape at Cal Poly. Key Qualifications - Demonstrated skill using databases/query languages to store, manipulate, and retrieve data (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, Aurora, or Redshift) - Experience using data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Oracle Analytics Cloud, Tableau, Power BI). - Demonstrated knowledge of scalable data warehousing, ETL pipelines, and schema modeling. - Demonstrated ability to identify and implement critical maintenance fixes and to isolate and correct malfunctions, including interface problems. - Experience with monitoring, maintaining, and improving data warehouse and data lake operations in AWS tools and services. Education and Experience - Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Salary and Benefits Anticipated Hiring Range: $98,808 - $102,792 Per Year Classification Range: $77,904 - $113,496 Per Year Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable). This role focuses on designing and maintaining data lakehouses, pipelines, and warehouses that unify data from platforms such as RIO, Domo, Canvas, HubSpot, and SurveyMonkey. The engineer supports efforts to develop and curate reusable datasets, ensuring that information flows securely and efficiently between systems to support analytics, compliance, and institutional decision-making. By implementing repeatable frameworks and optimizing data processes, this position plays a critical role in advancing the university’s data maturity and empowering evidence-based insight across all departments.
