Job Description

Video Editor

Digital Shift

Role Description Can you feel the exact frame where a cut should land—and turn hours of raw footage into a story viewers can't look away from? Do you know that the magic isn't in the footage, it's in the rhythm—the breath between words, the perfectly timed B-roll, the cut that hits right when the viewer's attention starts to drift? If you live for the craft of the edit—and you're tired of endless revision cycles that water down great work—your next big opportunity awaits at Digital Shift! Join our team of content, social, and video creators as a Video Editor, where you'll be the creative force behind authority-style YouTube videos and talking head productions that build trust, drive views, and grow audiences. In this pivotal role, you'll transform multi-camera footage and raw audio into polished 16:9 long-form videos, then repurpose the best moments into vertical 9:16 shortcuts engineered for TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Your mastery of pacing, rhythm, colour grading, and storytelling will be instrumental in helping home service businesses across North America build credibility and connect with their audiences. And thanks to our proven creative process, you can finally escape the endless edit revision nightmare—we give you clear briefs, structured feedback, and the creative trust to do your best work the first time. Step into a role at Digital Shift where your eye for detail and storytelling instincts are essential to our mission of dominating the digital landscape—one perfectly cut frame at a time. Responsibilities - Edit authority-style and talking head YouTube videos in 16:9 format, crafting cohesive narratives that hook viewers early and keep them engaged through the final frame. - Shape every edit with intentional pacing and rhythm—using cuts, pauses, music, and motion to create emotional beats that make complex topics easy to understand and impossible to scroll past. - Identify the strongest moments from full-length videos and repurpose them into vertical 9:16 shortcuts optimized for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook. - Sync and edit multi-camera angle footage using audio tracks, seamlessly cutting between perspectives to maintain visual interest and pacing. - Apply professional colour grading techniques and custom LUTs to deliver a polished, consistent visual aesthetic across every project. - Sync audio across multiple sources, ensuring crisp, broadcast-quality sound that complements the visual edit. - Collaborate on scriptwriting and story structure, shaping raw content into compelling narratives that educate, entertain, and convert. - Craft openings that grab attention in the first 3 seconds and edit for retention, using cuts, motion, and transitions that keep viewers locked in. - Organize project files, footage, and graphics across multiple ongoing productions to ensure efficient workflows and seamless revisions. - Partner with our content, social, and creative teams to align video output with broader marketing strategies and client objectives. Qualifications - A detail-oriented, creative mindset with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple video projects simultaneously. - 2-3+ years of hands-on experience in long-form and short-form video editing, with a portfolio showcasing YouTube authority videos, talking head content, and vertical social cutdowns. - University or College degree in Film Production, Digital Media, Communications, or a related field. - Proficiency with industry-standard editing tools including DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and web-based platforms like CapCut. - Demonstrated experience with LUTs and professional colour grading workflows. - Strong skills in multi-camera angle editing and syncing footage using audio tracks. - A natural sense of pacing, rhythm, and timing—knowing how to build emotional impact and keep videos engaging from open to close. - Solid understanding of storytelling principles and scriptwriting fundamentals, with the ability to shape narrative arcs from raw footage. - Working knowledge of vertical video best practices and platform-specific requirements for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook. - Experience working within an agency setting is an asset, demonstrating your ability to manage multiple clients and adapt to diverse brand voices. - Familiarity with the home services industry (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, roofing, etc.) is an asset, helping you quickly grasp client needs and shape relevant content. - This position is fully remote, so it is important that you are self-motivated, deadline-driven, and able to stay connected and responsive using project management and collaboration tools. Benefits - Embrace a career where your creativity drives real change, and your well-being is always a priority. - Find a supportive community, dynamic challenges, and ample opportunities to grow both professionally and personally. Company Description Since our founding in 2007, Digital Shift has embraced a distinct approach to digital marketing. We cut through the typical agency nonsense, focusing instead on result-driven teams and fostering strong relationships that drive success. Our team is committed to creating an inclusive environment where diverse voices are not only heard but are also integral to our success. We collaborate to empower home service businesses in Canada and the US by helping them turn online searchers into customers. Ready to make a real impact? Apply today and be a part of our growth story at Digital Shift! Salary: 55000 - 75000 CAD Per annum
