We are seeking a Technical Solutions Manager in Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to support the growth and execution of automation and digital transformation projects in the U.S. Life Sciences market. You will serve as the technical authority and thought leader for Life Sciences automation projects, bringing deep domain expertise in process control, regulatory compliance, and digital manufacturing to support ABB’s role as a Main Automation Contractor (MAC) and digital transformation partner. This role is contributing to the AUEN division in the US. The work model for the role is hybrid. Responsibilities: - Act as ABB’s lead technical expert for DCS solutions in the Life Sciences sector and provide technical sales support and domain-specific guidance to business development and proposal teams. - Ensure technical excellence and customer satisfaction, contributing to the growth and competitiveness of the Life Sciences Automation segment. - Collaborate with strategic customers to develop automation strategies and roadmaps aligned with industry trends and regulatory requirements. - Lead or support design reviews, functional specifications, and validation documentation in compliance with FDA, EMA, and cGMP regulations. - Lead technical presentations and solution workshops/lunch and learns with executive stakeholders to influence buying decisions and build trust. - Set up, support and deploy DCS demo centers to support customer engagement. - Partner with product management and R&D to influence development of Life Sciences-focused features and digital capabilities. - Conduct internal and external training sessions to disseminate Life Sciences automation knowledge across ABB. Qualifications for the role: - Bachelor’s in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical), or Biomedical Science; MSc preferred. - 15 + years in Pharma/Biotech automation, or EPC project business with ≥ 5 years P&L or segment leadership. - 5+ years of experience with Distributed Control Systems. - Extensive automation/domain knowhow in long-cycle, largescale life sciences projects with proven oversight of substantial execution backlogs and value creation track record . - Experience with ABB’s DCS is a plus—experience with other DCS products (Emerson, Siemens) and PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) is also beneficial. - Deep expertise in cGMP, FDA/EMA, GAMP 5, Data Integrity, ISA95, ISA88. - Strong knowledge of ISA-88 / S88 batch architecture and recipe configuration. • The Sales Engineer is responsible for maximizing order intake and profitable sales in line with the company strategy within an assigned sales territory. • Develop and manage an individual sales plan aligned to territory objectives, including target account selection, lead qualification, pipeline development and accurate forecasting. • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and key decision-makers through proactive contact management, regular customer visits, and structured follow-up using CRM tools. • Conduct discovery meetings to understand application requirements, technical specifications, budget constraints and timelines; translate customer needs into a clear value proposition. • Plan and deliver compelling product demonstrations (remote and on-site), tailoring presentations to both technical and commercial stakeholders and addressing questions and objections. • Coordinate and support evaluations, trials and proof-of-concept activities as needed, ensuring technical feasibility and documenting outcomes to support customer decision-making. • Select and configure appropriate equipment and solution options to meet customer requirements, ensuring compatibility with the customer environment and compliance with relevant standards. • Prepare high-quality commercial offers and detailed financial proposals, including pricing, configuration, scope of supply, delivery terms and any service components. • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., applications/engineering, operations and service) to validate technical solutions, confirm availability and lead times, and ensure an accurate quotation. • Negotiate within agreed parameters and manage the opportunity from initial contact through order receipt, including documentation, internal handover and follow-up to secure timely closure. • Maintain up-to-date records of customer interactions, opportunities and next steps; provide regular reporting on activity, funnel status and market feedback. • Represent the company at relevant events (e.g., customer meetings, seminars and trade shows) and gather competitive and market intelligence to support business strategy.
