Project Manager – Bridge & Structures
BKF Engineers
• Lead and deliver bridge and structural engineering projects from pursuit through construction, including proposal development (scope, schedule, budget) and client interviews • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, agency partners, and teaming consultants across Northern and Central California • Manage multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with civil, survey, environmental, and construction stakeholders • Oversee and mentor engineers in the preparation of PS&E packages, technical studies, reports, calculations, and supporting documentation • Perform and review bridge analysis and design using bridge‑specific finite element and section analysis software • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards, including AASHTO LRFD and seismic design requirements • Provide construction support services, including site visits, responding to RFIs, and reviewing shop drawings and submittals • Lead bridge inspection and preventative maintenance projects, as applicable • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts in writing and verbally, representing the firm with professionalism • Manage project schedules, budgets, workload, and performance metrics across multiple concurrent assignments
Job Requirements
- B.S. in Civil Engineering is required, and M.S. in Structural Engineering is preferred
- California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required
- 12+ years of progressive experience in bridge and structural design and project management
- Strong understanding of bridge design codes, seismic principles, and construction practices
- Proven success in leading teams, client management, and deliver complex capital projects
- Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.
- Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.

Your mission is to build a project management function, standardizing and increasing the quality of delivery. This role requires daily management – primarily in our Professional Services Automation tool Kantata – to oversee effective delivery on time, budget, resource planning, and excellence in reporting so the executive team can increasingly make forward looking decisions. You will collaborate closely with our delivery team – Consultants, implementation specialists, designers, and developers – to ensure clarity on project requirements, outcomes, and plans to drive success for our clients. You will bill a portion of your time to client work. Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Three main disciplines are critical to success. The ability to: Project Management: Build and deploy excellent project management processes that delight clients and the team alike in the results that are gleaned. Scoping and Estimation: Ensure the sales team has accurate estimates that translate to contracts and that the handoff from sales to delivery is fluid and clear.
