Sr Power Systems Engineer

This position provides support for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Surveillance and Radar Modernization Group under the National Air-Space Implementation Support Contract (NISC). The successful candidate will: - Provide engineering consultation for compliance with FAA and industry standards and best practices and provide recommendations for solutions in all phases of the system’s lifecycle including: contract, policy, site survey, design and design review, and implementation. - Participate in the development, administration, management, logistic, and strategy of project planning and implementation. Develop to complex engineering problems using MATLAB/COMSOL/EDSA/SKM and/or other engineering design tools. - Manage National Change Proposal, Configuration Control Board process, and departmental website. Ability to work in multidisciplinary engineering disciplines such as power systems, radar, communications, RF, analog and digital systems. The following set of skills/knowledge will lead to a successful career in this position: - Knowledge and direct work experience in power systems is a must. - Strong writing skills exhibited through thesis or dissertation papers at academic institutions; white papers, or publications at nationally/internationally recognized technical organizations. - Experience with some or all of the following are required: short circuit coordination, arc flash studies, engine generator, UPS, grounding, lightning protection. Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, UL, NFPA, NEC, and other industry standards related to electrical power engineering. Knowledge of FAA/DoD systems, technical policies, standards and orders. Primary Responsibilities - Provide engineering consultation for compliance with FAA and industry standards and best practices and provide recommendations for solutions in all phases of the system’s lifecycle including: contract, policy, site survey, design and design review, and implementation. - Perform power system studies: load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, protective device coordination analysis, arc flash risk assessment, and harmonic analysis. Maintain documentation of power system studies for official government records. - Participate in process improvements with other peers and clients. Participate in the development, administration, management, logistics, and strategy of project planning and implementation. - Develop solutions to complex engineering problems using MATLAB/COMSOL/EDSA/SKM and/or other engineering design tools as well. Manage National Change Proposal, Configuration Control Board process, and departmental website. Basic Qualifications - Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Power Systems, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 8 to 12 years of professional experience; or 6 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. - Registered Professional Engineer license or Senior member of IEEE is preferred. - Power engineering experience combined with electrical engineering degree is a must. - Demonstrated experience performing power system studies with minimal supervision. - Strong writing skills exhibited through published papers at a national/international engineering organization. - Willing to travel up to 50% as required by project needs. Job Description Summary Job Description Summary The Aeroderivative Systems Integration Leader (SIL) is a critical role in the systems engineering team to execute package programs in partnership with the cross-discipline engineering team. The SIL may be responsible for a variety of New Product Introduction (NPI) programs for the assigned gas turbine generator package including Options and Product Cost Out (PCO) programs. The SIL may also be responsible for FPC programs such as Reliability and Maintenance (RAM) or Supply Chain Support programs. This leader defines detailed work scope to achieve the product requirements, makes system level trades, sets program priorities, and manages assigned program budget/schedule. Systems integration engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered around a systems thinking approach and the product development process. This includes all activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. Systems engineers execute a robust process of design and system optimization by: • Evaluating the engineering team ability to meet system requirements • Develop alternate system design concepts • Perform engineering trade studies to meet requirements • Select and implement safe, quality designs • Verification that the design is properly integrated and executed Job Description Roles and Responsibilities - Partners with cross-discipline engineering teams to develop program plans that meet technical, production, and business requirements.
