Job Description

Staff Frontend Software Engineer

Future plc

• Own the frontend architecture and implementation of our core member-facing product. Partner closely with product and design to translate vision into polished, performant interfaces. • Build with the member in mind — you care about load times, interaction feel, and the small details that make an experience feel alive. • Set the standard for frontend code quality, component architecture, and design system usage across the team. • Build for scale — write code that the next engineer can pick up, extend, and ship with confidence. • Instrument the frontend for performance and reliability. Know when things break before members do. • Use AI to accelerate prototyping, code review, and documentation — then apply your judgment to sharpen the output. Bring a perspective on how AI can be woven into the member experience itself — personalization, intelligent UI, adaptive coaching flows.

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of frontend engineering experience, with significant time on consumer-facing mobile or web products.
  • Deep expertise in React Native or React, TypeScript, and modern state management.
  • Strong design sensibility — you can work from a Figma file and know when something is off.
  • You've operated at the Senior or Staff level — or functioned at that altitude regardless of title.
  • Experience in a fast-moving startup where you've made smart tradeoffs between polish and velocity.
  • Domain Passion You care about health, fitness, and the idea that great coaching can change people's lives.
  • Working Style High craft. You see the difference between good and great and you care about it.
  • Collaborative with design — you push back when something doesn't work and propose alternatives, not just problems.
  • Low ego, high ownership. You do what needs to be done.

Benefits

  • Equity Meaningful early-stage equity package with standard 4-year vesting and 1-year cliff.
  • Health Coverage Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus life and disability coverage.
  • Retirement 401(k) plan with tax-advantaged savings options.
  • Remote-First Work from anywhere in the continental U.S.
  • Home Office Support Stipend to set up your workspace and monthly support for internet or coworking.
  • Wellness Monthly wellness stipend plus access to mental health resources and therapy support.
  • Flexible Time Off Flexible PTO so you can rest, recharge, and take care of life outside of work.
  • Learning & Development Annual budget for courses, conferences, coaching, and tools.

About CoLab At CoLab, we help mechanical engineering teams bring life-changing products to market years sooner. CoLab is the AI platform for driving stronger engineering decisions. Every design review in CoLab builds a knowledge repository of design feedback, decisions, and lessons learned - which AI agents draw from to flag issues on future designs before they compound. The more your team works in CoLab, the smarter it gets and the faster you arrive at the ideal design. Companies like Ford, Komatsu, and Johnson Controls use CoLab to catch issues earlier, eliminate rework cycles, and bring products to market faster. Founded in St. John’s, Newfoundland, CoLab has grown quickly from our first customer in 2019 to a rapidly scaling company. We’ve recently been recognized on Deloitte’s Fast 50™ and Fast 500™, and named a Canadian company to watch by The Globe and Mail and Financial Post. About the Role As a Front-End Developer (Software Developer IV) on our Build Engage Team, you’ll bring modern, user-focused front-end skills to an evolving platform used by global engineering teams. You’ll work with designers, product managers, and back-end developers to build responsive, performant, and accessible UI experiences, helping CoLab users engage with complex data and workflows in simple, intuitive ways. You write clean, maintainable code and enjoy working closely with design and product to bring thoughtful interactions to life. Experience working on high-usage interfaces or data-rich applications is an asset. This role requires both technical confidence and curiosity — someone who wants to build an excellent UI, but is also motivated by learning how users work and how to make their experience better. This role has the flexibility to work from anywhere within Canada.
