Forward-Deployed Engineer

Ruby Labs

• Work closely with internal and external product teams integrating our payment solution. • Help products correctly integrate our frontend JavaScript SDK and backend APIs. • Be deeply familiar with how our system behaves in real-world integrations. • Feed real integration issues, edge cases, and gaps back to the engineering team. • Write code, read code, debug integrations, and help shape both the SDK and the documentation based on real usage. • Assist product teams in integrating the JavaScript payment SDK into their frontend applications. • Help configure payment flows, callbacks, and error handling. • Monitor support channels (Slack, tickets, shared chats, etc.). • Answer technical questions related to SDK usage and API behavior. • Guide teams through best practices for secure and reliable integrations. • Reproduce reported integration issues locally or in test environments. • Debug frontend and API-related issues across: JavaScript SDK, Backend Golang API, CRM and configuration interfaces. • Identify real bugs and escalate confirmed bugs to the development team with clear reproduction steps and context. • Review and validate API and SDK documentation against real system behavior. • Keep documentation in sync with current SDK and API versions. • Identify missing examples, unclear explanations, or misleading flows. • Proactively improve developer-facing docs based on integration feedback. • Use and understand the internal Next.js CRM. • Help configure products, payment flows, and settings via the CRM. • Provide feedback to the CRM team on usability gaps or missing functionality. • Occasionally implement small frontend improvements if needed. • Act as the voice of integrators and product teams inside RubyLabs. • Share recurring issues, friction points, and improvement ideas with engineering and product. • Help prioritize fixes and improvements based on real-world impact. • Contribute to improving overall developer experience of the platform.

Job Requirements

  • Strong experience with JavaScript / TypeScript and frontend integrations.
  • Experience working with frontend SDKs or third-party APIs.
  • Ability to read and understand backend APIs (REST, JSON, auth flows).
  • Comfort debugging issues across frontend and backend boundaries.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • High ownership mindset — you care about integrations actually working in production.
  • Nice to have: Experience in payments, fintech, or checkout flows.
  • Nice to have: Experience with React / Next.js.
  • Nice to have: Familiarity with Golang APIs.
  • Nice to have: Experience improving developer documentation.
  • Nice to have: Previous experience in a Forward-Deployed Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or Integration Engineer role.

Key Responsibilities - Engineering Design Support: Assist the Design Services team in drafting technical specifications, developing facility sketches, and preparing design submittals for water and wastewater treatment systems. - Process Modeling: Utilize BioWin software to assist in modeling wastewater treatment processes and evaluating system performance. - Calculations & Analysis: Perform fundamental fluid mechanics and hydraulic calculations to support pipe sizing, pump selection, and overall system hydraulics. - Treatment Technology Integration: Support the research, layout, and integration of Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) treatment systems and other advanced water reuse technologies. - Regulatory Compliance: Cross-reference design parameters with EPA water quality standards and local regulatory requirements to assist with the permitting process. - Documentation & Reporting: Compile engineering reports, technical memos, and project documentation. - Site Visits (Occasional): Travel to active project sites or facilities to assist with site assessments, data collection, or design verification alongside senior engineers. Requirements Education & Knowledge: - Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (Junior, Senior, or Graduate level preferred). - Foundational understanding of water, wastewater, and water reuse treatment principles. - Specific knowledge of MBR systems is highly desired. - Understanding of EPA water quality standards and environmental regulations. Technical & Software Skills: - Familiarity with fluid calculations and hydraulic profiles. - Introductory knowledge of or hands-on academic experience with BioWin process modeling software. - Highly proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam for drawing management, markups, and collaboration. - Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting tools is a plus.
