Role Description We are hiring a Senior React Frontend Engineer to play a critical role in improving and accelerating a large-scale transactional web platform. The application is a React-based SPA integrated with GraphQL/REST APIs and a headless CMS. This is a high-impact, delivery-focused role where the primary objective is to significantly reduce an existing frontend backlog within a 3–6 month timeframe. The backlog includes performance issues, technical debt, mobile inconsistencies, vulnerabilities, and delayed product work. You will work within an existing, complex codebase, balancing speed and quality while shipping meaningful improvements. This role requires a proactive, product-minded engineer who can identify issues, prioritise effectively, and collaborate closely with product and design teams to enhance the overall customer experience. Responsibilities - Take ownership of reducing and managing a large frontend backlog, delivering measurable improvements within defined timelines. - Develop, maintain, and optimise a React-based single-page application in a production environment. - Diagnose and improve frontend performance, including Lighthouse metrics and Core Web Vitals. - Identify and address technical debt, improving code quality, stability, and maintainability. - Build and enhance responsive, mobile-first user interfaces, ensuring consistency across devices and browsers. - Integrate frontend components with GraphQL and REST APIs, ensuring efficient data handling and performance. - Develop and maintain CMS-driven components using Contentful or similar platforms. - Collaborate closely with product, design, and QA teams to refine requirements and deliver high-quality features. - Work pragmatically within a legacy codebase, making incremental improvements while continuing to ship features. - Participate in Agile workflows using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Figma. - Proactively identify user experience issues and suggest improvements aligned with business goals. Qualifications - Strong experience building and maintaining React-based SPAs in production environments. - Proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript. - Strong skills in HTML and CSS, with a focus on responsive and mobile-first development. - Proven experience integrating frontend applications with GraphQL and/or REST APIs. - Hands-on experience improving frontend performance, including Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals. - Experience working in backlog-heavy environments, with the ability to prioritise and deliver quickly. - Experience working with legacy systems or technical debt-heavy codebases. - Strong problem-solving skills and ability to deliver pragmatic solutions under time constraints. - Experience working in Agile teams and collaborating with product and design stakeholders. - Product mindset with the ability to think about customer journeys and user experience. Role Description As a UX Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of design and development, serving as the vital link that brings aesthetic visions to life through high-fidelity code. You will collaborate closely with Product Designers to validate feasibility and with Software Engineers to ensure the architectural integrity of the user interface. How you'll contribute - Collaborate with Product Designers and Stakeholders to transform complex wireframes and high-fidelity mockups into functional, pixel-perfect code. - Develop and maintain a scalable, reusable component library within our Design System to ensure UI consistency across all digital products. - Build high-fidelity interactive prototypes to validate user experiences and conduct usability testing before full-scale engineering implementation. - Architect clean, modular, and maintainable CSS/SASS structures and front-end logic that align with modern web standards. - Optimize application performance and load times to ensure a smooth, lag-free experience for users across various devices and browsers. - Implement web accessibility best practices (WCAG) to ensure our platform is inclusive and usable for people with diverse needs. - Bridge the communication gap between design and engineering teams by translating design specifications into technical requirements. - Refine micro-interactions and animations to enhance the overall "look and feel" and emotional engagement of the product. - Conduct thorough code reviews and UI audits to maintain high quality-assurance standards for the interface. Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. - 7+ Years of experience working in design technology, UX engineering, interaction design, or related roles. - Prior experience building or contributing to design systems. - Demonstrated experience creating interactive prototypes and refining design specifications. - Experience reviewing and improving design quality through hands-on refinement. - Ability to identify gaps in designs, including missing states, edge cases, and interaction details. - Deep understanding of interaction design principles, micro-interactions, and animation. - Experience designing and specifying responsive behaviors across different screen sizes. - Ability to evaluate designs for technical feasibility and recommend alternatives when needed. - Strong visual design sensibility and ability to maintain design consistency. - Expert proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript for prototyping and component development. - Strong experience with web components and Lit framework. - Proficiency with modern frameworks like React and/or Angular. - Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and modern CSS architecture (CSS-in-JS, CSS modules, tokens, etc.). - Experience with prototyping tools and frameworks (Framer, ProtoPie, custom code, etc.). - Experience with Storybook for component documentation and development. - Familiarity with visual regression testing tools (Percy, Chromatic, BackstopJS, or similar). - Understanding of design tokens and design-to-code workflows. - Strong experience working with Figma, including translating and refining designs. - Advanced English Level is required for this role, as you will work with US clients.
