Senior Policy Analyst
AFN
• Gather and analyze statistical and qualitative information related to First Nations issues. • Develop and support policy by collecting and interpreting data and collaborating with key stakeholders. • Make recommendations on policies, programs, processes, and procedures that affect First Nations. • Work collaboratively with AFN policy staff and colleagues across the organization to ensure coordinated and consistent policy development. • Manage and maintain databases, centralized information repositories, and internal knowledge-sharing systems relevant to the sector. • Participate in the development and implementation of sector-specific work plans and contribute to broader strategic and tactical planning aligned with First Nations priorities. • Respond to information and action requests and communicate relevant updates across the sector and the organization. • Draft and review briefing notes, speeches, and correspondence for senior management and leaders. • Establish and maintain productive relationships and networks with First Nations communities at regional and national levels. • Plan, support, facilitate, or lead meetings, discussions, and consultations with internal and external partners. • Provide project management and technical support or leadership on sector projects.
Job Requirements
- Candidates must have a post-secondary degree in political science, social sciences, humanities, public policy, municipal administration, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in research, intelligence/analysis, and policy development within First Nations communities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience in drafting proposals and reports, facilitating focus groups, and synthesizing information for policy positions and documents.
- Experience building intergovernmental partnerships, including with Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC), Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), First Nations governments, and other federal or provincial departments.
- Deep knowledge and understanding of First Nations housing and infrastructure issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interpret documents and policies for both the general public and First Nations audiences.
- Strong team-building skills, active listening, mentoring and group facilitation abilities, and creative problem-solving skills.
