Job Description Summary We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Staff Data Engineer to join our team. This is a senior individual contributor role for a leader who is passionate about designing, building, and scaling our data infrastructure. You will be responsible for tackling our most complex data challenges, driving technical strategy, and mentoring a team of talented engineers. Your work will directly impact our ability to make data-driven decisions and deliver value to our customers. - Architectural Leadership: Design and build highly scalable, reliable, and fault-tolerant data pipelines and platforms. Drive the architectural direction for how we ingest, transform, and store data. - Technical Execution: Be a hands-on expert in developing and optimizing our core data pipelines using technologies like SQL, Python, Apache Spark, and cloud-native services. - Mentorship and Coaching: Act as a force multiplier for the team. Mentor and coach other data engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of best practices, code quality, and professional growth. - Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with data scientists, analysts, and product managers to understand complex business requirements and translate them into robust, efficient data solutions. - Operational Excellence: Ensure the operational health of our data systems. Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging to proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and system failures. - Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering. Champion and lead the adoption of new tools and approaches that will enhance our platform and our team's capabilities. - Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce data quality standards and governance practices to ensure the integrity and reliability of our data assets. The position will be focused on data quality and timeliness metrics from 25+ payers across 10+ data domains. Required Qualifications - 7+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering or a similar role, with a proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale data systems. - Programming: Proficiency in Python and strong Proficiency of SQL - Cloud Platforms: Extensive experience with at least one major cloud provider's data ecosystem (AWS, Azure, or GCP) - Data Warehousing: Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT principles, and modern data lake architectures - System Design: Proven ability to design and build scalable and resilient data systems from scratch - Communication: Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences Preferred Qualifications - Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines. - Familiarity with streaming technologies such as Kafka or Kinesis. - Familiarity with healthcare data and healthcare insurance feeds is a plus Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Engineering - Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is: $106,605.00 - $260,590.00 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
