Role Description We're looking for a Staff Backend Engineer who can independently drive projects end-to-end — from problem discovery and requirements analysis to architecture, implementation, deployment, and production operations. This is not a "ticket executor" role. We need someone who sees the big picture, identifies what needs to be done, and makes it happen. You'll work at the intersection of Web3 infrastructure and high-load distributed systems, owning critical backend services that power cross-chain DeFi products used by hundreds of thousands of users. - ✅ Full-time, remote — work from anywhere in the world. What We Expect - Autonomy & Ownership - You don't wait for someone to hand you requirements — you gather context from stakeholders, identify problems, propose solutions, and drive them to production. - You take full ownership of services you build: from initial design through deployment, monitoring, and incident response. - You proactively identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability risks — and address them without being asked. - Technical Leadership - You make and document architectural decisions (ADRs), lead design reviews, and set engineering standards for the team. - You mentor other engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing. - You bring best practices from the broader industry and actively improve our engineering culture and development processes. - Engineering Depth - You design and build backend services and SDKs in Node.js/TypeScript for high-load, distributed environments. - You have deep, hands-on expertise across the full infrastructure stack: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, gRPC, Kubernetes, AWS, ClickHouse. - You understand database internals — indexing strategies, query optimization, data modeling trade-offs. - You design systems for reliability: graceful degradation, distributed locking, idempotency, retry strategies, backpressure. - You own the deployment pipeline and production environment: CI/CD, container orchestration, infrastructure-as-code. - You build and maintain observability: metrics, logging, tracing, alerting — and use them to make data-driven decisions. - Web3 & Blockchain - You integrate with EVM-compatible and Solana blockchains: processing transactions, interacting with smart contracts, indexing on-chain events. - You understand the specifics of blockchain data and can design reliable off-chain systems around it. - Collaboration - You work closely with Protocol, Frontend, Data, and DevRel teams to align on priorities and deliver high-impact features. - You communicate clearly and proactively — surfacing risks, trade-offs, and progress without being prompted. Requirements - 6+ years of backend development experience, with strong Node.js/TypeScript expertise. - Proven ability to work autonomously: gather requirements, make architectural decisions, and deliver without constant oversight. - Deep knowledge of distributed systems: databases, caching, message brokers, networking, consistency models. - Production experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, gRPC, Kubernetes, AWS. - Strong understanding of deployment and operations: CI/CD, container orchestration, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring and alerting. - Excellent testing discipline — you write tests not because someone asked, but because you ship reliable software. - Strong communication skills — you can articulate technical trade-offs to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders. - Fluent Russian (internal communication); confident English (docs & technical discussions). Nice to Have - Hands-on Web3 experience (EVM/Solana, smart contracts, on-chain data processing). - Exposure to Solidity — ability to read and understand smart contracts. - Familiarity with DeFi protocols and products. - Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Loki, OpenTelemetry). - Hands-on experience with other ecosystems (Go, JVM, C#) — we value engineers who think beyond a single stack. - Experience writing ADRs and leading architectural discussions.
