• Job Description At Day[9]’s unannounced game studio, we are crafting a next-generation multiplayer strategy game for PC. As a Senior Character Artist, you will work with the art director and Character Team to drive the artistic vision for all in-game characters, collaborating with concept artists, animators, and designers, to deliver stunning and iconic characters that resonate with players. • This role requires a seasoned artist with a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of storytelling through visual design. You join a team of character artists, setting quality standards, fostering creative growth, and ensuring our characters remain cohesive with the project’s artistic vision. • Responsibilities: Maintain and refine character art pipelines and workflows to improve production efficiency, quality, and consistency. Create high-quality 3D models, textures, and materials for characters, including high- and low-poly models and UVs. Work with the other leaders on the team to manage timelines, ensure deadlines are met, and identify any resource needs or roadblocks in production.

• UI/UX Design & Implementation: Design, prototype, and implement high-quality in-game and out-of-game UI using Unreal Engine’s UI systems, with a strong focus on clarity, responsiveness, and usability. • Real-Time Gameplay UI: Build UI that supports complex, information-dense, real-time gameplay, helping players make confident decisions under pressure. • Blueprint-Driven Development: Own UI implementation in Unreal using Blueprints, including widget logic, layout behavior, animations, transitions, and polish. • Systems-Level UX Thinking: Collaborate with designers and engineers to shape UI flows for complex player-facing systems, identifying friction points and proposing effective solutions. • Localization-Aware UI Design: Design UI layouts that are resilient to localization constraints, including variable text length, different character sets, and internationalization requirements. • World-Space & Screen-Space UI: Implement both traditional screen-space UI (menus, HUDs, overlays) and in-world UI elements (indicators, tooltips, contextual information). • Technical Collaboration: Work closely with engineering partners to integrate UI with underlying game systems, including data binding, state-driven updates, and performance considerations. • Iteration & Polish: Participate in frequent reviews, iterating on UI designs and implementations to achieve a high-quality bar for usability, readability, and feel. • Cross-Discipline Communication: Communicate clearly with design, engineering, art, and production to align on goals, constraints, and solutions.
